Fast Facts: Facelifted Toyota Yaris Launched in Malaysia
The Toyota Yaris is a great choice for buyers who want a sporty look without losing out on reliability. The side profile looks great with its nifty spoiler, but the rather busy-looking face is an acquired taste - at least to the eyes of this writer.
What’s Outside?
The facelifted version couldn’t come quick enough, and we are pleased to report it looks much better. In place of the moustached face of the previous version is a more chiselled, clean-shaven look. The decorative chrome strip even runs into the headlamp for a more cohesive look. Compared to Thailand, our facelifted Yaris comes with an additional lip.
Exterior upgrades include a new triple bezel full LED headlights with newly designed DRLs. Also included is a follow-me-home function for safety and convenience.

What’s Inside?
The biggest change in the interior will be the infotainment display, which is now a 7-inch unit which supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (only on E and G versions). Speaking of E and G, UMWT’s Vehicle Telematics System is also standard equipment. A wireless charging pad could also be had for RM550.

How Fast?
Mechanically, the Toyota Yaris remains unchanged. It solders on with the 1.5-litre Dual VVT-i naturally aspirated 4 potter which churns out 107hp and 140Nm of torque. Shifting duty is undertaken by the same 7-speed CVT transmission.
How Safe?
In terms of safety, the biggest upgrade would be the addition of Toyota Safety Sense suite of driver assistance features. Which means this B-segment hatchback comes with autonomous emergency braking and lane departure warning system. Operation of these 2 features is undertaken by an integrated camera and radar system.
Though the current Yaris has both functions as well, it's operated by the rather unreliable and cumbersome dashcam. This writer wouldn’t be surprised if current owners choose to turn it off.

How Much? The Toyota Yaris J, E and G variants are priced at RM71,688, RM80,591 and RM85,587 respectively. Prices include sales tax exemption without insurance. UMWT is throwing in a 5-year unlimited mileage warranty in the equation.
