Good News! Special Incentives For EV Buyers To Be Announced This July!
It is time for Malaysians to consider buying electric vehicles (EVs) in the future as the government will introduce various special incentives just for EV buyers.
To accelerate the development process of electric vehicles (EVs), the government is now ready to offer various special incentives for consumers and buyers of EVs.
It is rumoured EV owners will receive purchase tax exemptions, toll rebates, green parking schemes or 'green parking', residential charger installation incentives and electricity tariff incentives.
According to a Bernama report, the incentives do not only involve passenger cars, scooters, motorcycles and commercial vehicles.
Instead, it also involves original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), EV manufacturers or companies that use EVs as a form of service such as e-hailing.
Commenting further on the matter, Malaysian Institute of Automotive, Robotics and IoT (MARii) chief executive officer Datuk Madani Sahari said, the introduction of an incentive structure is being considered for final government approval.
“Incentives under the EV policy are expected to be presented to the Cabinet next month. Therefore, the decision on this comprehensive incentive will be announced no later than this July, ” he said.
He added that the incentive would not only benefit consumers but also have a positive impact on the EV industry.
“There is a stage in this incentive, where it touches on excise duty, import duty and sales tax. All these incentives will be enjoyed by consumers and the industry, " he said.
However, he did not rule out the possibility that the incentive would be a platform to drive the implementation of the National Automotive Policy 2020 (NAP 2020) besides being able to boost the EV segment in the country.
