As we know, the Honda City RS was launched to Malaysian markets in March this year. The RS may bring in more competition between its rivals, the Toyota Vios and the Nissan Almera. Here’s how they stack up against each other!
When comparing price, the RS has the highest price that starts from RM 105,950, which is followed by Toyota Vios at RM 74,623, followed by the Nissan Almera with the starting price of RM 65,699.
Under the hood of the RS is a 1.5 litre Atkinson-cycle DOHC i-VTEC four-cylinder engine that produces 97 hp at 5,600 rpm to 6,400 rpm and 177 Nm of torque at 4,500 rpm to 5,000 rpm. Equipped with two motors, the engine also includes an electric motor that works as a starter. The second motor produces 106 hp at 3,500 to 8,000 rpm and 253 Nm of torque at 0 to 3,000 rpm which sends the drive to the wheels of the vehicle.
As for the Vios, it is equipped with a 1.5 litre Dual VVT-i four-cylinder engine that produces 107 hp at 6,000 rpm and 140 Nm of torque at 4,200 rpm. Following that, the Almera comes with a 1.0 litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine that produces 99 hp at 5,000 rpm and 152 Nm of torque at 2,400 to 4,000 rpm.
As for the transmission, the RS comes with an Electric Continuous Variable Transmission (e-CVT), the Vios with a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) 7-speed Sport Sequential Shiftmatic mode and the Almera equipped with an X-Tronic CVT with D-Step Logic and Sport mode.
The Vios comes up with the highest fuel consumption at 5.8 L/100km, followed by the Almera at 5.4 L/100km (NEDC). The vehicle with the lowest fuel consumption is currently the RS at 3.77 L/100km.
The Honda City RS stands at 4,553 mm long, 1,748 mm wide, 1,467 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,600 mm. It weighs 1,246 kg and comes with 410 litres of boot space.
As for the Toyota Vios, it stands at 4,425 mm long, 1,730 mm wide, 1,425 mm high, along with a wheelbase of 2,550 mm. It weighs 1,145 kg and has 506 litres of boot space.
Next is the Nissan Almera that is 4,425 mm long, 1,695 mm wide, 1,500 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,600 mm. The Almera weighs 1,035 kg and has a boot space of 490 litres.
From the dimensions mentioned above, we can see that the RS is both the longest (4,553 mm) and the widest model (1,748 mm) among the other two. However, the tallest model (1,500 mm) is the Almera. As for boot space, the Vios has the most space with 506 litres.
