The Ministry of Transport announced that the logistic industry can now use the travel approval letters issued by SMILE (Logistics Industry Information System) dated June 1, 2021, for inspections at roadblocks.

The move was put into effect after the government implemented the Tightened Movement Control Order (TMCO) in several districts and locations in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur from July 3 to July 16.

However, the logistics and transportation industry is advised to download the latest SMILE letter as amendments consider the transition from the Movement Control Order (MCO) phase to the National Recovery Plan (NRP).

“Therefore, we encourage the relevant parties to download the letter on the website at https://application.mot.gov.my,” as was mentioned in a statement.

SMILE is a dedicated system for companies in the logistics and commercial transportation sectors, including air and water, courier and warehouse services, during MCO period.

The ministry also mentioned that loading and unloading non-essential items are only allowed outside the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) areas.

As for the EMCO areas, only warehousing companies can operate as it is a chain service to ports and airports.

Meanwhile, apart from warehousing, loading and unloading activities are limited to companies listed in the essential list (necessary services) in the EMCO areas only.

Please visit https://www.mot.gov.my/my to find out more about the logistics and transportation sector that can operate during the MCO season.
