Harbouring Parts From A Porsche And Kia Stinger, A Twin-Turbo DeLorean Sold For Over $200K

The DeLorean DMC-12 might have been a memory lost in automotive history if it weren't for the ‘Back to the Future’ trilogy.
Luckily today, the unused parts and machinery from the Belfast production plant are kept in Houston where original DeLoreans and new build examples can be maintained for the loyal enthusiasts.

That said, every once in a while, a DeLorean build project appears that's truly out of this world and this is one of them.
Recently, a 1981 DeLorean was sold on 'Bring A Trailer Auctions' (BaT) for USD 243,000 (RM 1,026,432.00).

Notably, this example gets the 2.85-litre Peugeot-Renault-Volvo V6 engine swapped out and instead, placed in its chassis is a Kia Stinger-sourced 3.3-litre V6 fitted with a pair of Garrett turbochargers.
Then, it also features a six-speed transaxle and a limited-slip differential from a 996.2 Porsche 911, with brake callipers sourced from a Ferrari 348 Challenge.

Moreover, the Lotus-tuned chassis has been upgraded with reinforced lower rear cross-member and powertrain mounts.
Its fuel system also underwent a number of modifications. Now it can run with either e85 or 91+ octane fuel.

Significantly, all these enhancements enable it to surge the quarter-mile in 11.65 seconds with a top speed of 124 mph (199 km/h), whereas from 0 to 96 km/h in just 3.9 seconds.
Aesthetic-wise, the Giugiaro-designed body panels have been re-grained and the front and rear layout are now finished in matte silver.

Also present is an exposed engine bay at the rear, a dual-circular three-inch centre-exit exhaust, and one thing has been kept original, which is the 15-inch turbine-style wheels.
Interestingly, its new owner also received the car's original window sticker that lists the Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of USD 26,175 (RM 110,563.20).

In terms of the interior, it retains a mostly stock look with the exception of a 996 Porsche 911 shifter assembly, a new shift knob, a boost gauge, Recaro seats, and an Alpine stereo.
All in all, this DeLorean was left shrouded for 20 years until 2019 and now, not only has it been brought to life better, stronger and faster, it has found a new home where it would be appreciated.
