2022 Geely Emgrand Launched In The Philippines - Price Is From RM65k
With the launch of the fourth-generation Emgrand, Geely Philippines has added a sedan to its lineup, following the release of three SUVs, the Azkarra, Coolray, and Okavango.
For the time being, the Emgrand (codenamed SS11) is offered in two variants: the Comfort, which costs 798,000 Philippine pesos (RM65,145), and the Premium, which costs PHP908,000 (RM74,124). There will also be a base S variant in the future, but no pricing has been announced yet. The Geely sedan will be a competition to the other B-segment vehicles such as the Toyota Vios and Honda City in the country.
The Emgrand measures 4,638 mm in length, 1,820 mm in width, 1,460 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,650 mm. The Honda City, on the other hand, is 4,553 mm long (-85 mm), 1,748 mm width (-72 mm), and 1,467 mm tall (+7 mm), with a 2,600 mm wheelbase (-50 mm). Following Philippine spec sheets, the Vios is significantly smaller at 4,425 mm (-213), 1,730 mm width (-90 mm), 1,475 mm tall (+15 mm), and 2,550 mm wheelbase (-100 mm).
The iconic a "straight waterfall energy sound string" front grille with vertical slats further enhance the The Emgrand's ‘dramatic’ and unique design. There’s also redesigned headlamps surround the grille, with triangular-shaped fog lamp parts in the front bumper's corners.
The three-box profile is straightforward, with a single character line visible above the door handles, connecting the front and rear lighting units. The window line does spike up a touch at the C-pillars for added visual interest.
Meanwhile, full-width taillights with a light bar and scripted timepiece join the clusters, which have their own characteristic light signature, are fitted to the back. The bottom apron is dominated by a diffuser-like device that is connected by a long chrome strip, faux outlets, and slim reflectors.
On the Inside, you'll find a simple dashboard with a slatted insert that runs the length of the dashboard and incorporated air vents. The middle console houses the gear lever and electronic parking brake, while the standard eight-inch infotainment touchscreen screen and air-conditioning controls are separated by this (Comfort and Premium only).
The S comes with projector halogen headlamps, LED daytime running lights, powered side mirrors, 15-inch steel wheels (with 195/65 profile tyres), a black interior, two speakers, manually-operated front seats, fabric upholstery, automatic air-conditioning with rear vents, a 3.5-inch multi-info instrument display, traction and stability control, ABS with EBD, hill start assist, a tyre pressure monitoring system, and ISOFIX child seat.
The Comfort adds 17-inch alloy wheels (with 205/50 profile tyres), automatic projector LED headlights, two extra speakers, more driver seat flexibility (still manual), a reverse camera, rear parking sensors, cruise control, and speed-sensing automatic central locking to the S.
Apparently, the top-of-the-line Premium has the same features as the Comfort, but adds side mirror defrosters, hands-free boot release, a white and blue interior theme, two more speakers (for a total of six), a six-way powered driver's seat, leatherette and suede upholstery, a sunroof, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and more airbags (side and curtain).
In the Philippines, the Emgrand is only available with a JLC-4G15B 1.5 litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 102 PS (101 horsepower) at 5,600 rpm and 142 Nm of torque between 4,400 and 4,800 rpm, regardless of the model. By comparison, the China-spec Emgrand produces 114 PS (113 horsepower) and 147 Nm.
Generally, the S model has a five-speed manual transmission, but the Comfort and Premium models have a CVT with eight virtual speeds instead. Three drive modes (Eco, Comfort, and Sport) are offered on the top two models, as well as disc brakes (ventilated front, solid rear) all around (the S receives front ventilated discs and rear drums). All models come equipped with front MacPherson struts and a rear torsion beam.
