“Superbike Riders Must Obtain A Class B License To Avoid Legal Consequences” – JPJ

Superbike riders who routinely ride on their learner's permit (L), especially when participating in motorcycle convoys, have been recognised by the Road Transport Department (JPJ).

According to JPJ's deputy director general for strategy and operations, Aedy Fadly Ramli, these riders are not allowed to operate motorcycles with engine displacement more than 250cc. Additionally, these riders lack both licenses (L and Class B).

Aedy advised these motorcycle riders to obtain a Class B license right away to avoid facing harsh legal consequences if they were found driving without the required documentation.

"These motorcyclists are advised to get a Class B license immediately because they can face severe legal action if caught without a proper license."

According to Aedy, during 'Ops Lejang' Phase 1 at the Bentong Toll Plaza yesterday, more than 3,000 motorcycles were examined, and 796 motorcycle riders received summonses for a variety of traffic offences.

"Most of the offences were related to not having a driving license and valid road tax," he added.

In another statement, Aedy reported that between 2018 and last June, the RTD issued summonses to 1.3 million motorcycle riders and examined a total of 3.7 million motorcycles nationwide.

"Among the highest offences were riding without a license which comprised 471,665 cases, riding with expired licenses (313,174 cases) and no insurance coverage (299,772 cases)".

He also assured that RTD would occasionally step up monitoring and enforcement on national and state highways and roads to address unlawful racing and risky riding.
