Triumph First Electric Motorcycle; Speed, Power, And Range Specs Released
Since Triumph started testing the e-motorcycle market waters in the beginning of 2019 and then went on to formally declare an in-house electric motorbike research programme, the Triumph TE-1 project has been moving forward gradually.
Triumph has now achieved enough advancements that it is prepared to disclose the key performance specifications that consumers are most interested in learning about.
With a top output of 175 horsepower, or roughly 130 kW for its electric motor, the Triumph TE-1 seems to be coming out of the gate strong.
According to the manufacturer, that will result in a 0-60 mph time of 3.6 seconds.
Remember that the power estimate provided by Triumph is very definitely an exaggeration based on peak electrical draw rather than actual output power.
With only 82 kW of peak power, Zero's Motorcycle's obviously optimistic calculations show that the SR/F street fighter has a quicker 0-60 mph time. Despite boasting only 78 kW of peak power, the Harley-Davidson LiveWire One is even faster off the line with a nearly 3.0-second 0-60 mph time.
Moving on, Triumph claims that the TE-1 will have a range of 100 miles (160 km), but it doesn't go into detail about the difference between city and highway range or give a precise estimate of the battery pack's capacity.
Also, the battery should have the ability to recharge from 0 to 80% in 20 minutes, indicating DC fast-charging capability.
During acceleration, regenerative braking will also aid in battery recharging.
The bike is anticipated to weigh around 485 lb (220 kg), which is considerably less than other popular electric bikes like the LiveWire One, which weighs closer to 550 lb (250 kg).
What Triumph's probable future production route would entail is not yet apparent. Given that the company was so far along with the prototype testing, we had anticipated hearing more information about the prospective manufacturing plans for the electric motorcycles.
However, Triumph has remained silent regarding production updates, raising doubts over whether the TE-1 will actually see the light of day.
Even though they haven't yet reached production, other traditional motorcycle manufacturers are upping their electric motorbike game at the same time.
Ducati has made remarkable progress developing an electric racing motorcycle for the FIM MotoE electric motorcycle racing championship and has already indicated that the motorcycle will be used to produce a consumer-level electric sport bike, though it hasn't given a precise deadline.
