Toyota and Perodua listed to have outstanding backlogs of orders

High number of outstanding orders have been revealed by UMW Group's subsidiaries UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) and Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (PERODUA).
UMW Group President and Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Ahmad Fuaad Kenali, said both UMWT and PERODUA would try to increase production in order to meet customer demands.
In a statement, he said, "with fewer semiconductor chip shortages and a recovering supply chain, we are confident of achieving our sales targets."
Last month's sales achievements for UMWT were quite encouraging as the company delivered 24,983 cars, compared to 2,105 in July 2021. In contrast, sales were affected last year by Movement Control Orders (MCOs) between June 1 and August 15 during the same period (July 2021).

A total of 198,237 units were delivered by UMW during the first seven months of 2022, up 48 percent from 133,506 units delivered during the same period in 2021. According to UMWT, 6,637 vehicles were sold last month, compared to 1,450 a year ago when the MCO impacted sales.
UMWT has recorded sales of 52,548 units so far this year, 48 percent higher than the 35,561 units sold in 2021. The Toyota Veloz, a model that is slated for launch in the near future, started accepting reservations on June 24th.
To boost sales of Vios and Yaris, UMWT offers a promotion in August. However, UMW claimed PERODUA sold 18,346 units in July 2022, a much higher number than June 2021's 655 units.
The company sold 145,689 units during the first seven months of 2022, 49 percent more than during the same period in 2021.
July 20 marked the launch of the all-new Perodua Alza, ensuring PERODUA's position as a market leader. Soon, the Ativa Hybrid will be available for subscription by the public.
