Next Gen Mazda MX-5 Miata To Get Wider Rear Tracks

NE MX-5 Miata in camouflage sporting a wider rear end.
Current generation Mazda MX-5 Miata code name ND has actually been in the market for about 7 years. While it still looks fresh as though it was just launched last year, the geniuses at Mazda are already toying with the next generation Miata which we assume could be the NE model.
As you can see from the spy shots the overall look seems to have not changed much, however don’t be dupped as this is just the test mule and the real works is still under wraps and the whole outlook could be totally different in the actual production model. However, from the test mule we can see the obvious tweaks under the chassis.
The Miata NE seems to have been fitted with wider flares at the rear compared to the Miata NE indicating Mazda potentially increasing the rear tracks of this model which would provide better handling overall to an already well-balanced machine.
Back in April when questioned by Autocar, Mazda's head of product development and engineering in Europe Joachim Kunz, reassured that the Miata will stay true to its concept of being a front engine rear-wheel drive machine.
He goes on to add that "we will have to electrify it, but we want to keep this pure concept”. So could be see some form of electrification to its powertrain, a mild boost of perhaps? But what is most likely is the implementation of the current line-ups Skyactiv-X technology to deliver petrol-like performance with diesel-like efficiency.
