To all Malaysians that are unaware, installations of ‘Beacon Lights’ to a vehicle, such as the ones used by law enforcements are prohibited.

These ‘Beacon Lights’ can only be used by the police, fire, ambulance and JPJ vehicles. Any other public vehicles are not allowed to utilise them.

It is against the law, and if caught with these types of accessories, a fine of not more than MYR 2,000, or imprisonment of not more than six months will be issued.

Arrested Toyota Vellfire MPV With Blue Beacon Light

For example, recently, the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) of Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM), arrested a Toyota Vellfire MPV in the Batu Caves industrial area.

This is because the driver is said to be using a blue beacon light, installed on the inside of the front windshield above the dashboard.

Notably, according to PDRM, public vehicles normally use the lights to either be given the right of way, or pretend to be law enforcement officers.

That said, the listed official vehicles are the only ones allowed to have the right of way, other than sounding a siren or two-tone horn.
