Vehicle Sales and Production for Sept 2022 Rose by 0.15% - MAA

The Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) recently released their monthly vehicle sales and production report for September 2022. Said report suggested an increase in both sales and production of vehicles by 0.15% – 67,659 for sales and 69,389 for production. Sales and production for August last month clocked at 66,614 and 69,378 units respectively

Said increase is due to manufacturers fulfilling its backorders received prior to the previously-announced Sales and Service Tax (SST) exemptions due date on June 30 this year. The backorders are due to supply shortage, especially microchips.

However, September’s year-to-date sales and production showed a more significant increase – 62% higher than September last year. Less stringent COVID-19 restrictions on business operations are said to be one of the main factors in said increase.

MAA also projected a similar sales rate for Oct this year, with supply chain disrupts still not entirely resolved and global semiconductor shortages currently ongoing.

For the record, this year’s total vehicle sales and production as of Sept are recorded at 516,798 and 508,761 units respectively.
