1,600 students from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Johor, returned to their home states to vote in the 15th General Election (GE15) happening this Saturday. The students would be transported using 43 buses provided by UTM and external bus companies.
According to Professor Dr. Shamsul Sahibudin, UTM Deputy Vice Chancellor (Student Affairs), students would be transported over two days, 16 and 17 November just in time for Saturday’s GE15.

This exercise was coordinated by the UTM Student Representative Council (MPP) which spent the last three weeks collecting information on students who require the service. Students were charged a fare from as low as RM20 to RM50 depending on their location and state.
Dr. Shamsul Sahibudin further added that he is pleased that the student representative council had stepped up and came to the aid of students who required this service in order to carry out their responsibilities as voters.
The bus service provided for returning students to carry out their responsibilities is a welcomed effort by the students, S. Rakesh Kumar, a UTM student said, "Yes, I really need to thank the UTM administration for providing buses for students because it is quite difficult to find a bus near the outside because one is already full and there are quite a number of students who want to go back to vote”.

Another student Fatin Shahida Afiqah Shaharudin adds, "Because I'm originally from Kedah and always fly, getting there is extremely expensive due to the GE15 price hikes. However I was relieved that I can fulfil my duty as a citizen thanks to this effort by the UTM student representative council”.
Wilson Tan who also studies in UTM goes on to say, "I am very happy to be able to vote for our future because the economy has declined, hence a vote for the right party would mean a turn for better economic growth”.
The buses departed at 9.30pm last night, and today’s session began at 8am just now.
