UMWT Introduces Toyota Eco Youth to Spark Sustainable Innovation Among Malaysian Youth
TEY 2022 2023 Launch Ceremony
UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) recently launched the Toyota Eco Youth (TEY) 2022/2023 edition with the theme 'Championing Mobility' in collaboration with The Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE) and MAD Movement (formerly known as Leaderonomics Community).
The TEY initiative, which is open to secondary school students, began in 2001 as a significant component of the environmental pillar of UMWT's yearly Corporate Social Responsibility programme, and the 'Toyota Problem Solving' technique was introduced the following year.
A total of 274 schools and almost 3,000 students, administrators, and instructors countrywide have engaged in the TEY programme since it began 21 years ago. In continuation of its agenda, around RM 7 million was invested to organise the programme.
Aside from that, TEY participants could win cash from a prize fund of up to RM71,500. 16 schools will be joining in developing sustainable solutions for communities on top of preparing them to be future stewards of the planet.
The students will have to undergo rigorous prototype development training known as 'TEY Makerspace Facilities' at the Prototype Centre Me.reka in Publika to obtain the necessary skills to build their ideas and promote mobility.
Last year, the TEY programme was launched incorporating a fully virtual programme to benefit students nationwide during the pandemic and since then the TEY programme has been held in both physical and virtual formats, inclusive of training and ceremonial events.
“We at UMW Toyota Motor are continuously working towards realising our goal of zero CO2 emissions by 2050 as part of a more sustainable future.
This effort extends beyond just our company as we engage students and teachers through the Toyota Eco Youth program to develop young minds to think consciously about the people and planet,” stated Ravindran K, President of UMW Toyota Motor.
