TNB Electron, who were building a healthy pace earlier in the year, somehow has lost its momentum. Back in March 2023 they announced that they would be expanding their EV charging network by setting up 6 DCFC stations at R&R Machap (heading south), R&R Rawang (heading north), R&R Gunung Semanggol (heading south), R&R Gurun (both heading north and south) and R&R Paka (heading south).

This proposed new 6 addition is on top of an already existing 3 DCFC facility at Ayer Keroh (heading north - 2x90kw), Tapah (heading north - 2x90kw) on the North-South Expressway and Paka (heading north - 2x90kw) on East Coast Expressway 2 (LPT2).

What actually happened, that led to TNB not achieving its target as of yet with a little more than two months left in the year. Well we did enquire about this matter and we were assured that although there has been a slight delay the six proposed stations would be up and running latest by March 2024 due to some land related delays.

Well having said that, TNB Electron who were present at the International Greentech & Eco Products Exhibition and Conference Malaysia (IGEM) had laid out an even more ambitious plan which now spans over two years ie. till 2025.

Now lets see the breakdown of the 66 unit of chargers by states that TNB Electron would technically have should this plan be realised. Johor would have 2 DCFC and 2 AC charging locations, Melaka would have 1 DCFC and 1 AC, Negeri Sembilan 1 AC. Kuala Lumpur (KL) and Selangor would house the bulk of these chargers, 5 DCFC and 11 AC in KL while Selangor gets 6 DCFC and 6 ACs.

Perak would get 4 DCFC and 1AC, Pulau Pinang 2 DCFC and 3 AC, Kedah 4 DCFC and 1 AC, Kelantan 6 DCFC and 1 AC, Terengganu 4 DCFC and Pahang is to get 3 DCFC and 2 ACs. However there are no plans from TNB Electron to expand to Sabah and Sarawak.

TNB Electron’s existing chargers are accessible via the Go-To-U App. Users who opt to charge in any one of the 3 currently operating chargers can expect to pay a by minute rate that varies by location which ranges from  80 kW at RM2.05/min, 90 kW at RM2.20/min and 100 kW at RM2.35/min.
