Shell Malaysia has unveiled the new Shell FuelSave 95 fuel earlier this year, with the firm claiming that this improved formula can add an extra 15 KM distance on a full tank. To prove this claim, Shell Malaysia has organised the Shell FuelSave 95 Challenge 2023, which saw many Malaysians attempting to push the boundaries of their vehicle running under this new RON95 fuel.

After a month-long search across the nation to find one Malaysian who can set the best mileage record, the Shell FuelSave 95 Challenge 2023 has finally come to the last stage, where five finalists were selected to compete in the Grand Finale of the challenge, taking place last weekend.

This final stretch took place at Shell SM Alisha in Shah Alam, where all five finalists were required to drive through Cyberjaya, Bukit Jalil, Cheras, Ampang, Gombak, Sri Hartamas, Kota Damansara, Puncak Alam, and return back to the starting point, covering up to 121 KM of distance.

Taking home the crown as ‘Malaysia’s Most Efficient Driver’ and a total grand prize of RM20,000 was Johor’s Chin Li Qin, where he set a fuel mileage rate of 28.23 KM/litre during the grand finale stage of the Challenge – breaking his previous record of 25.45 KM/litre.

“I’m genuinely excited to win the Grand Finale of Shell FuelSave 95 Challenge 2023, and I was surprised when my name was announced as the champion. It was impressive to see all participants achieving mileage beyond the average benchmark. Some roads were quite challenging, but I tried to keep myself calm and drive like I normally do back in my hometown,” said Li Qin during the prize-giving ceremony.

Aside from Li Qin, other finalists – Jeffrey Tan Teck Seng from Port Dickson, Ahmad Amirul Runass from Kuantan, Muhammad Jazli Mahathir from Ipoh, and Lai Siaw Feng from Kuching, all successfully surpassed above the average mileage of 18.5KM/L with Shell FuelSave 95 throughout the final stretch.

Commenting on the impressive fuel mileage rates achieved by the finalists, Seow Lee Ming, General Manager of Mobility, Malaysia said, “Now, not only are we able to quantify the fuel economy gained by the customers from a full tank of Shell FuelSave 95, we are also able to witness the unbelievable mileage experienced by our customers, which further proves our New + Improved Shell FuelSave95 to be truly better by far.”

Also presented during the prize ceremony of Shell FuelSave 95 Challenge 2023 was Shairan Huzani, managing director of Shell Malaysia Trading.
