Sarawak Set To Become Asia's First Hydrogen-Powered Economy!
-full_normal.jpg)
Sarawak, according to Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari, plans to begin large-scale commercial production of green hydrogen by 2027. This ambitious project aims to promote renewable energy and minimise the region's carbon footprint.
The state is collaborating closely with Korea on this effort, which is proceeding as planned. The hydrogen produced will be sent to Korea, bringing in revenue for Sarawak. Sarawak is also partnering with Japan to manufacture green hydrogen for domestic consumption as well as export to Japan and Singapore.

Abang Johari emphasised Sarawak's ambition of becoming Southeast Asia's first hydrogen-powered economy, underlining the myriad benefits such a transition would offer. Reduced carbon emissions, increased energy security, and prospects for economic growth and employment creation are among them.
Sarawak is contemplating the implementation of a hydrogen-powered autonomous rapid transit (ART) system in Kuching to further assist the development of cleaner hydrogen energy sources. This system, which is expected to begin commercial operations by the end of 2025, will use trackless trams with rubber tyres moving on tarmac instead of rails.

Abang Johari underlined that the ART system would help address traffic congestion between Kuching and Kota Samarahan while also lowering carbon emissions and air pollution caused by road transit.
Sarawak seeks to set the way for sustainable development in Southeast Asia via dedication, meticulous planning, and collaboration among the government, industry, and the people. The state's commitment to green hydrogen production and hydrogen-powered technologies reflects its commitment to a more environmentally friendly and sustainable future.
