Through targeted subsidies and financial aid, the Malaysian government is making efforts to ensure that all income groups can afford to own an electric vehicle (EV). The Investment, Trade, and Industry Minister, Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz, made this declaration at the opening of the Tesla Centre in Cyberjaya.
He emphasised the government's dedication to inclusivity and the growth of the nation's comprehensive EV ecosystem. The country's EV charging infrastructure is being improved and expanded by the government, The star reported.

According to Paul Tan, the local automotive industry has already benefited from the implementation of policies and initiatives. By September 2023, there were more than 7,500 electric vehicles registered in Malaysia, up from more than 3,400 in 2022.
Comparing this to the average of 300 units in prior years, there has been a significant improvement. In addition, from 2018 to March 2023, investments in the EV sector have totaled RM26.2 billion.

Tengku Zafrul emphasised the significance of matching the EV policy with the recently unveiled New Energy Transition Roadmap 2030 (NETR 2030). In order to support the increasing number of EVs on Malaysia's roads, he emphasised the country's need to expand its renewable energy resources. The NETR aims to hasten grid infrastructure investments and offer financial incentives for the growth of renewable energy sources.

Tesla's presence in Malaysia is anticipated to improve the EV ecosystem and increase the country's potential as a regional hub for EV production. This might encourage additional investments in the industry.

Tengku Zafrul thinks Malaysia is prepared to hasten the switch to EVs now that Tesla is there. The EV industry will see technological advancements, research, and development that will put Malaysia on the map for environmentally friendly transportation.
Finally, through subsidies and financial support, the Malaysian government is dedicated to making EV ownership affordable for all income groups. The infrastructure for EV charging in the country is being improved and expanded. The rise in EV registrations and investments in the EV market demonstrate the beneficial effects of governmental policies and programmes. First-Tesla-Centre-in-Malaysia3.png

In order to support the growth of EVs, the government also understands how important it is to develop renewable energy sources. With Tesla's presence, Malaysia could develop into a major regional EV manufacturing hub and make significant strides in the EV industry.
