Detailed specs of the Malaysian-bound Honda CR-V (sixth-gen) has been revealed

The much-awaited Honda CR-V is due for a next-gen upgrade for our local market, with the sixth-gen model already opened for booking by Honda Malaysia. Ahead of its debut later this month, it appears that tentative details regarding the new CR-V have surfaced, along with its initial tentative prices.

As revealed by several Honda Malaysia dealers during the new CR-V exclusive preview roadshows, the sixth-gen CR-V will be available in four variants for our local market, with the range consisting of a 1.5L S, 1.5L E, 1.5L V AWD, as well as the range-topping 2.0L e:HEV RS. This also means that the new CR-V is no longer offered with a 2.0L i-VTEC nat-asp powertrain option, last seen on the baseline 2WD variant of the previous-gen CR-V model.

Similar to the FE-gen Civic, the new CR-V will be exclusively powered by either a turbocharged mill or a series-parallel hybrid (HEV) powertrains. The first three variants – 1.5L S, 1.5L E, 1.5L V AWD – will be getting the same 1.5-litre 4-cyl L15BE DOHC VTEC turbocharged mill as both the Civic and previous-gen CR-V, outputting 193 PS and 243 NM. Said four-pot turbocharged mill is still mated to Honda’s proprietary Earth Dreams CVT gearbox, with the 1.5L V AWD getting an all-wheel drive driveline instead of FWD ones on the lower variants.

Thai-spec Honda CR-V 2.0L e:HEV RS (sixth-gen)

As for the top-specced 2.0L e:HEV RS model, it is powered by the same i-MMD hybrid powertrain setup used on the Civic e:HEV RS model, which combines a 2.0-litre 4-cyl nat-asp Atkinson Cycle engine with an electric motor setup – with the former working primarily as a generator to power up the latter. Unlike the turbocharged models, the e:HEV RS variant gets an e-CVT gearbox, which helps to send drive to the front wheels (FWD).

According to Honda Malaysia, this setup is good enough to deliver a total system output of 184 PS and 335 NM. While said figures are peppier than what we saw on the Civic e:HEV RS, they are still significantly behind the Thai-spec CR-V 2.0L e:HEV RS, which offers a total system output of 204 HP and 371 NM.

We can expect the Malaysian-bound Honda CR-V 2.0L e:HEV RS model to boast similar exterior equipment as its Thai counterpart.

Aside from powertrain options, we can also expect all variants of the new CR-V to get similar equipment and kits as their Thai counterparts, with the top-specced e:HEV RS model getting the best ones. For the exterior, the 2.0L e:HEV RS model gets a snazzier front grille design finished in black with RS badging, with the Thai model riding on bigger 19-inch alloy wheels compared to the standard 17- and 18-inch ones featured on other lower-specced variants.

As for its on-board equipment, the top-specced RS model in Thailand comes standard with a 12-inch digital instrument cluster, alongside a dedicated head-up display (HUD) and a smaller 9-inch head infotainment unit with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support available. Completing its cabin equipment list are Bose 12-speaker premium audio system, wireless charging pad, and a panoramic sunroof – though we can expect the latter equipment to be dropped from the Malaysian-bound model.

With tentative prices ranging from RM160,000 to RM185,000, the Malaysian-bound Honda CR-V is cheaper than its counterparts from the northern neighbouring Kingdom.

With orders for the sixth-gen Honda CR-V SUV already opened in Malaysia, numerous Honda Malaysia dealers have been sharing the tentative prices for the new CR-V 1.5L VTEC turbo models, which starts from RM160,000 to RM185,000. Meanwhile, there are no estimates yet for the range-topping 2.0L e:HEV RS model, which is expected to break the RM200,000 mark, as said model is currently on sale in Thailand for THB 1.729 million (RM228,000 approx.).
