Smart Lane Activation On Highways To Be Carried Out For Upcoming 2024 Eid
Sinar Harian reports that SmartLane sections along key highways in the country will be activated again for this year's Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.
For your information, Datuk Seri Hasnol Zam Zam, Secretary General of the Ministry of Public Works, stated that the decision was made following an initiative to implement it during the Chinese New Year celebrations, which had previously received positive feedback from road users.
According to him, users should wait for an announcement from the relevant concession companies about the date and total number of SmartLane locations activated on each highway.
"We are grateful to the road users who gave a lot of feedback on the effectiveness of the SmartLane system after it was activated in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebration last year. We will improve this system over time. The ministry also hopes that this system can benefit and further improve the safety aspects of road users during the Aidilfitri festival,"
Many parties had previously criticized several concessionaires, including PLUS, for activating the SmartLane system, claiming that it confused road users. This is due to a lack of notification about the SmartLane route activation locations, which has led to many road users misinterpreting the situation and believing that vehicles are abusing the emergency lane for their own benefit.
Earlier this month, deputy works minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan told the Dewan Rakyat that discussions would be held with PLUS Malaysia and the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) to raise awareness on the SmartLane activation.
