Launched: BMW iX1 eDrive20 M Sport Lands – 64.8 kWh, Up to 475 KM, From RM249,800

BMW Group Malaysia just added the entry-level BMW iX1 eDrive20 M Sport into its line-up today.
BMW Group Malaysia expanded its local electric vehicle (EV) line-up once again today by announcing a new addition. New for the local market here is the BMW iX1 eDrive20 M Sport premium EV crossover.
As refresher, BMW first introduced this entry-level guise of the iX1 back in Sept last year ahead of the IAA Munich 2023 show. However, unlike the model shown globally, the iX1 eDrive20 variant for Malaysia has been up-specced with the M Sport exterior treatment.

For Malaysia, the new entry-level iX1 eDrive20 (top) dons the M Sport exterior kit just like the higher-end xDrive30 variant launched last year (bottom).
The latter explains this variant’s similar sporty style and stance as the higher-specced xDrive30 M Sport variant the firm launched locally during the Malaysia Auto Show 2023. However, said new entry-level variant does feature a distinctively different grille with a mesh-like insert design.
That aside, the iX1 eDrive20 M Sport continues to sport its signature full-LED headlights matched with equally distinct L-shaped LED taillights – both standing as design hallmarks of the third-generation (U11) X1 premium crossover it underpins.

Variant-specific though is the eDrive20 variant's front grille, which features a mesh-like pattern instead of vertical strips.
On board, the iX1 eDrive20 M Sport also gets the latest BMW Curved Display module that combines both a 10.25-inch instrument display and 10.7-inch central infotainment touchscreen. Both run the latest BMW operating System 9 and are tied with the BMW Live Cockpit Professional suite.
Underneath, the iX1 eDrive20 M Sport shares the same 64.7 kWh lithium-ion battery as found in thexDrive30 M Sport variant, but it juices a single e-motor setup instead, which powers the front wheels with 204 HP and 247 NM.
Altogether, said e-powertrain setup sees this entry-level variant despatch 0-100 KM/H sprints in 8.6 seconds whilst enroute towards an electronically-capped 170 KM/H V-Max. As for range, a full charge sees this entry-level variant gain an edge as it boasts a claimed WLTP figure of 475 KM.

On board, the iX1 eDrive20 M Sport boasts the latest BMW Curved Display module. It also comes equipped with the BMW Live Cockpit Professional suite. (Note: European model pictured above).
As a refresher, the higher-specced xDrive30 M Sport variant, which packs a peppier 313 HP and 494 NM dual-motor setup, is quicker with a 0-100 KM/H time of 5.6 seconds and 18- KM/H V-Max. However, said pep does see this variant make do with less range – up to 440 KM (WLTP).
As for charging, the iX1 eDrive20 M Sport accepts 11 kW AC and 130 kW DC charging inputs. The latter grants up to 120 KM of range with just 10 minutes of charging time, as well as rapid 10-80% re-charge times of just 28 minutes – the same as the iX1 xDrive30 M Sport.
Beyond which, BMW Group Malaysia didn’t detail much else, but expect this entry-level variant of the iX1 to pack enough semi-autonomous driving assistance tech (ADAS) to keep it at least on par with key segment rivals.

This entry-level variant commands a more 'accessible' base price of RM249,800, or RM264,000 with BS + RI factored in.
Naturally, with slightly lesser kit on hand, this new entry-level iX1 eDrive20 M Sport variant commands an arguably more accessible base price of RM249,800. Said figure goes up to RM264,000 with the BMW Service & Repair Inclusive (BS + RI) package factored in.
In contrast, the iX1 xDrive30 M Sport commands higher figures of RM275,800 (base) and RM290,000 (with BS + RI).
So, what do you reckon folks? Will this Bimmer tempt you away from notable pretenders like the smart #1 Premium? Share your thoughts in the comments below, as well as our social media pages…
