Thai Tourist Buses Needs APAD Permit to Transport Tourist Into Malaysia

Transport Minister Anthony Loke recently announced that Thai tourist buses are allowed to enter Malaysia to transport tourists. However, they are required to first apply for temporary permits from the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD).
Loke emphasised the importance of proper paperwork, stating that tour bus operators must submit detailed information, including the tour package, passenger count, and housing arrangements.
This legislation, however, is not limited only for border states such as Kedah and Kelantan but applies to all states in Malaysia.
Loke went on to say that the limitation was put in place for Thai vans, citing worries about unlawful passenger pickups in Malaysia. By having this rule in place the government intends to preserve control over cross-border transportation activity.
Notably, there were media reports previously stating that the Kelantan government had earlier asked the Transport Ministry to allow Thai tourist buses to enter as part of the Visit Kelantan 2024 campaign, to promote tourism in the state.
