Zeekr X Launched In Thailand From RM 156,000; Malaysia Next?

Zeekr, Geely’s premium electric vehicle (EV) brand, has officially launched in Thailand, marking the global debut of its right-hand drive Zeekr X model.

Zeekr Thailand also announced plans to establish 14 stores across Thailand by the end of 2024, aiming to provide comprehensive services and after-sales support to Thai customers. Currently, four Zeekr pop-up stores are already operational in Bangkok's commercial districts.

Pre-sales for the Zeekr X began on March 25 at the Bangkok International Motor Show. Thailand will be the first market to receive the right-hand-drive (RHD) version of the Zeekr X, with deliveries expected to begin in the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2024.

Two variants of the Zeekr X are offered in Thailand: Standard priced at THB1,199,000 (RM156,000) and Flagship priced at THB1,349,000 (RM175,000). Five colour options are available: Crystal White, Palace Beige, Pine Green, Grid Grey, and Mist Grey. Additionally, there are two interior colour schemes offered: Charcoal Black with Stone Grey, and Midnight Blue with Polar White.

The Zeekr X measures 4450 MM in length EITH A 2,750 MM wheelbase, 1836 MM wide, and 1572 MM tall. It is built on Geely’s Sustainable Experience Architecture 2 (SEA2) platform architecture, which it shares the smart #1 and #3 that are available in Malaysia through PRO-NET - a subsidiary of national carmaker Proton.

Both Zeekr X variants in Thailand harness a 67 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, with a claimed range of 540 KM (NEDC) for the Standard variant and 470 KM (NEDC) for the Flagship model.

The Standard variant features a single rear-mounted 200 kW (268 HP) electric motor with 343 NM of torque, capable of 0-100 KM/H sprints in 5.8 seconds. The Flagship benefits with an additional front motor, bringing the output figures up to 315 kW (422 HP) with 515 NM instead, which in turn allows it to perform the century sprint in just 3.8 seconds.

The Zeekr X features advanced driving assistance technologies enabled by five cameras, five millimetre-wave radars, and 12 ultrasonic radars. These grant features such as adaptive cruise control and lane change assist. Inside, the car is equipped with an 8.8-inch LCD instrument panel, a 24.3-inch head-up display, and a sliding 14.6-inch central infotainment screen that can move from the centre position towards the front passenger.

Buyers in Thailand are offered a 5-year or 150,000 KM vehicle warranty together with an 8-years or 180,000 KM warranty for both the e-motor and EV battery. Additionally, the first 500 buyers will also receive a free Wallbox complete with installation valued at THB50,000 (RM 6,500).

Following its successful launch in Thailand, it is likely that the next market Zeekr plans to expand into is Malaysia. The company has recently inked a cooperation agreement with Sentinel Automotive Sdn Bhd to bring its innovative electric vehicles and premium services to the Malaysian market next.

Sentinel Automotive, similar to Karrus Automotive, was founded by Mohammed Reza Abdul Mutalib, who also heads Lotus Karz — official importer and distributor of Lotus cars in Malaysia.

Known for representing luxury, low-volume brands locally, the group’s plans with Zeekr remains unclear. shether they aim to enter the mass market space and price the Zeekr X similarly to Thailand, or remain low key and cater to a niche audience a la Lotus, remains to be seen.
