Malaysian Navy Vessel KD Pendekar Sinks Off Johor Coast; No Casualty Reported

The navy vessel KD Pendekar, which experienced "severe flooding" due to a leak earlier, has completely sunk off the coast of Johor Bernama has reported.
The Royal Malaysian Navy (TLDM) stated that the KD Pendekar sank at 3.54pm yesterday, two nautical miles southeast of Tanjung Penyusop. According to TLDM, the maritime community's quick response saved all 39 crew members of the KD Pendekar before the ship was completely submerged, and no injuries were reported.

"They are now safe and housed at KD Sultan Ismail, Tanjung Pengelih, Johor," it said in a statement.
The leak was caused by the ship colliding with an unknown underwater object after it was first commissioned in 1979. Following that, TLDM will form a special investigation board as soon as possible to determine the root cause of the incident.
For the record, this vessel was built by Karlskrona Varvet Shipyard in Sweden, launched on November 11, 1978, and commissioned into the Navy fleet on July 27, 1979.
