Special Programme To Transit To Full Motorcycle Licence From October 1 - Loke

Beginning on October 1, holders of Malaysian driving licences (LMM) classes B1 and B2 will be eligible to apply for a special transition program that will allow them to obtain a class B LMM.
According to Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook, one of the requirements for registering for the transition programme is to have been an active B1 or B2 class LMM holder for at least ten years.

This condition is to ensure the level of competence and experience of driving a motorcycle for any individual before switching to a high-powered motorcycle, he added.
According to Loke, candidates enrolled in the special transition program will be required to pay RM160 toward the driving institute's operating expenses (IM). The candidate needed to complete two hours of circuit training and pass the IM's adaptation to motorcycles with 500cc and above.
This included information on safe driving practices, operating high-powered motorcycles, and a practical riding program.
The minister also stated that the applicant must be free of any blacklists, summons arrears, transaction restrictions, convictions for serious offences, or pending matters under the Road Transport Act 1987 [Act 333].
Additionally, he announced that the Class B1 license would be combined with Class B license, taking into account the low demand for the former category due to the public's preference for Class B licenses.
"Effective Oct 1, 2024, there will no longer be a programme for obtaining the Class B1 motorcycle driving licence at IMs open to the public.
"For existing B1 licence holders, they will remain in that category or can undergo the special programme mentioned above to obtain the Class B licence," he said.
