Ninth-Gen Toyota Camry Teased Ahead of KLIMS 2024 Debut
UMW Toyota Motor has published a teaser for the ninth-gen Toyota Camry ahead of its debut at KLIMS 2024.
Following its debut in both Thailand and Singapore, the ninth-gen Toyota Camry is finally making its way into our local market, as confirmed by UMW Toyota Motor via its official Facebook page. From said teaser, we can confirm that this new midsize saloon will be making its Malaysian debut at the upcoming Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS) 2024, alongside the facelifted Toyota Corolla Cross teased prior.
In both Thailand and Singapore, the XV80-gen Camry is offered solely with a new hybrid powertrain setup comprising a 2.5-litre 4-cyl Atkinson-Cycle petrol engine. Rated at 186 PS and 221 NM by itself, said petrol mill is mated to a 136 PS-rated electric motor and an e-CVT gearbox to deliver a total system output of 227 PS to the front wheels (FWD).
Aside from the hybrid, the XV80 Camry is also offered in a full ICE version, which uses either a 2.0-litre or 2.5-litre Dynamic Force petrol mill, with total system outputs ranging from 173 PS to 197 PS, depending on the market. But given both the Thai and Singapore markets getting a full hybrid lineup, perhaps we can expect UMWT to do the same for the Malaysian-bound Camry.
On the design front, the XV80 Camry adopts the same ‘hammerhead’ design language as other newer Toyota models, notably the new Prius. Key design features include the sharp, C-shaped LED headlights and taillights, the distinctive front face featuring a large lower front grille, a sleek three-box saloon bodystyle, and 18-inch alloy wheels, to name a few. Dimension-wise, the ninth-gen Camry grows slightly over its predecessor, measuring 4,920 MM long, 1,840 MM wide, 1,445 MM tall, and a wheelbase of 2,825 MM.
On board, the new Camry also promises to elevate its occupants’ life quality on the inside, as it is now primed with several new tech and comfort amenities. Amongst which are the 12.3-inch central infotainment display that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster complemented with a head-up display (HUD), a panoramic sunroof, power-adjustable sunshades for all four windows, a triple-zone climate control, ventilated front seats, and many more.
Also improved is on the safety front, as the XV80 model now rocks Toyota’s latest Safety Sense ADAS suite, which adds functions like Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) with curve speed reduction, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert with safe exit assist, pre-collision safety, lane-departure warning with steering and lane-tracing assists, and many more.
In the Thai market, the ninth-gen Toyota Camry retails from THB 1.45 million (RM187,657) onwards, with the Premium Luxury variant topping off the range at THB 1.789 million (RM231,530). Should we be getting the same Thai-spec-and-made Camry as our northern neighbour, then we can expect the local-spec model to be priced at the same ballpark figure.
The Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show 2024 is slated to take place from Dec 5 to 11 at MITEC, Kuala Lumpur, where it will be the stage not only for the new Camry to make its debut but also a slew of other new concepts, vehicles, and green mobility solutions.
