Previewed: Nissan X-Trail e-Power – Hybrid Range-Extender SUV, Coming Soon?
Besides the new Kicks, Nissan has also shown yet another e-Power hybrid model at KLIMS 2024, namely the X-Trail e-Power.
While the newly-launched Nissan Kicks e-Power made the headlines for Nissan Malaysia’s showcase at the ongoing Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show 2024 (KLIMS 2024), the automaker has silently shown us yet another e-Power hybrid model, this time based on the new, fourth-gen Nissan X-Trail.

Discreetly shown alongside the new Kicks e-Power, the new X-Trail e-Power displayed here comes draped in the same blue-hued e-Power livery, which is the same one used on the Kicks prior to its debut a few months ago. The livery is indeed not the only thing the X-Trail e-Power shared with its smaller sibling, as this C-segment SUV uses the same e-Power hybrid system, albeit with a slightly different twist.
The twist comes in the form of a larger 1.5-litre 3-cyl turbocharged petrol mill in place of the Kicks’ 1.2-litre unit, which is rated at 158 PS and 250 NM by itself. But as we all know, Nissan’s e-Power system only uses the ICE as a generator to juice a small 2.1-kWh battery, which in turn powers up the electric motor setup.
Nissan claims the X-Trail e-Power can do a 0-100 KM/H in eight seconds flat, en route to its limited V-Max of 170 KM/H. Unlike the Kicks, the X-Trail e-Power is offered with Nissan’s proprietary e-4ORCE all-wheel drive (AWD) system that adds an extra motor to the rear axle.
Based on the fourth-gen X-Trail, the Nissan X-Trail e-Power looks rather different from the ongoing third-gen model on sale in our market. Some key design cues present here include the distinctive V-motion front grille flanked by split LED headlights, an SUV bodystyle with a sleek roofline, sharp LED taillights with C-shaped lighting signatures, two-tone 19-inch alloy wheels, and many more.
Just like the ongoing X-Trail model, the new X-Trail e-Power is also offered in a three-row seven-seater form, all of which are dressed with some premium materials and finishes. Depending on the trim level, the equipment list is also not too shabby for the X-Trail e-Power, with the top-spec model getting things like a 12.3-inch central infotainment display with both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster supplemented with a 10.8-inch head-up display (HUD), a two-tone front dash wrapped in leather and wood veneers, a ten-speaker Bose sound system, and many more.
While the local-spec Nissan Kicks e-Power is assembled in Thailand, the production of the fourth-gen X-Trail exclusively takes place at the Nissan Motor Kyushu plant in Fukuoka, Japan. Given that the Malaysian-bound X-Trail e-Power might be a fully-imported (CBU) model, we surely can’t expect Edaran Tan Chong Motor (ETCM) to price it on the same bracket as other locally-assembled (CKD) C-segment SUVs in our market.
