Woman Fined For Using Car Plate Number To Spell Her Name
A woman driving a Honda City with a personalized number plate displaying her name was penalized by the Kedah Road Transport Department (JPJ) for failing to meet the required specifications.
According to a statement from Kedah JPJ, at approximately 6:40 p.m. yesterday, a woman in her 30s was stopped by the department while driving northbound on the North-South Highway at Kilometre 49.5. Upon inquiry, the woman stated that the vehicle's registration number was a gift from her spouse.
Further investigation revealed that the registration number on the plate did not comply with standards and resembled a word, which is considered an offence under Regulation 6(7) of the Motor Vehicles (Registration & Licensing) 1959.

The rule states that driving a vehicle with a number plate that is not displayed correctly, is unclear, or has been obscured or allowed to be obscured, is a violation. The penalty for this offense is a fine of up to RM 300.
Non-standard number plates are unfortunately widespread in Malaysia due to insufficient enforcement of existing regulations. To address this issue and enhance road safety by reducing car cloning, the government is implementing a number plate standardization initiative.
The JPJePlate, already mandatory for new electric vehicles, will eventually extend to all new vehicles, signifying the government's commitment to enforcing standardized number plates.
