More than 50,000 potholes along federal roads nationwide were patched up last year, says the Works Ministry.

More than 50,000 potholes along federal roads nationwide were patched up last year, says the Works Ministry. As reported by The Star, some 3,955 potholes were along federal roads in the peninsula, while 51,949 were along roads in the territories of Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan.

“We are committed to ensuring federal roads are always in safe conditions through conducting routine maintenance rounds throughout the year,” it said in a written reply during the parliament session earlier today.

The ministry also added that to improve the patch-up work efficiency, several potholes nationwide are now being monitored through an online system. It said that the system promises that potholes can be patched up between one to three days after they have been identified.

“All repairs must be done in accordance with the specifications and procedures set by the Public Works Department,” it said.

The ministry was responding to a question by Balik Pulau MP YB Datuk Muhammad Bakhtiar Wan Chik, who asked about the ministry’s efforts in repairing potholes and ensuring it is done appropriately.

Besides the ministry, members of the public can also lodge complaints for potholes or damaged roads via the relaunched MyJalan mobile app. As of Nov last year, the MyJalan app has received over 20,000 complaints, with the most common complaints being for potholes at 39.57%, followed by damaged roads (18.06%) and faulty street lights (16.35%).
