RM90,000 Worth Of Smuggled Diesel Seized At Bukit Kayu Hitam
Authorities seized nearly RM90,000 worth of diesel during a joint operation between Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) and the Road Transport Department (JPJ) at Bukit Kayu Hitam on June 23.
The syndicate, according to AKPS, had gone to great lengths to avoid detection, including modifying a pole trailer truck to conceal the illicit cargo. Authorities believe the diesel was intended for illegal export to a neighbouring country, in clear violation of domestic fuel subsidy regulations.
"A thorough inspection by enforcement officers uncovered a concealed auxiliary tank installed beneath the vehicle, containing approximately 3,500 litres of subsidised diesel," the AKPS said in a statement, adding that the lorry has been confiscated for further investigation.
The case is being investigated under Section 6 and Section 64(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Earlier this year, the Penang branch of the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) raided an illegal diesel storage facility operated by a smuggling syndicate near Sungai Perai in Sungai Lokan. The operation resulted in the seizure of 27,000 litres of subsidised diesel intended for local sale.
