Previewed: Jaecoo J5 SUV – Est. RM120K, Launching End-2025
Previewed today at the Omoda | Jaecoo Malaysia Carnival is the right-hand drive version of the Jaecoo J5 SUV.
Almost a year since its global debut in China, the much-anticipated Jaecoo J5 has finally made its Malaysian public debut today at the ongoing Omoda | Jaecoo Carnival here in Desa Park City. This B-segment SUV is slated to become the brand’s smallest model to date, set to debut by the end of this year.
On the visual front, the J5 looks like a slightly shrunken-down version of the Jaecoo J7, given its similar boxy SUV bodystyle and Range Rover-inspired design cues. Some key design highlights primed on the J5 include rectangular LED headlights flanking its front grille with vertical slats, slim LED taillights, 18-inch two-tone aluminium alloy wheels wrapped in 235/55/R18 tyres, and many more.
Dimension-wise, the J5 spans 4,380 mm long, 1,860 mm wide, 1,650 mm tall, and with a wheelbase of 2,620 mm. This puts it on par with popular B-SUVs like the Proton X50, the Honda HR-V, and even its newly-launched Chery stablemate, the Chery Tiggo Cross.
On-board, the J5 is brimming with both comfort and tech amenities, despite being the entry-level model for the brand. Some key tech bits include the large 13.2-inch central infotainment screen with WiFi connectivity, a smaller 8.0-inch digital metre cluster, an 8-speaker audio system, a large panoramic sunroof, a 540-degree camera view system, and many more.
All five seats are wrapped in full faux leather upholstery that is pet-friendly and with TUV certification. Despite being a B-SUV, the J5 offers decent practicality, with its standard boot space measuring 480 litres, and can be expanded to 1,180 litres once the rear seats are folded.
On the powertrain front, the Malaysian-bound J5 will be powered by a 1.5-litre 4-cyl turbocharged petrol engine rated at 147 PS and 210 Nm, while boasting a decent fuel economy rate of 7.5 litres per 100 km, according to the WLTC standards. Said engine is mated to a CVT automatic gearbox.
With a tentative price of RM120,000, the upcoming Jaecoo J5 SUV is slated to make its Malaysian debut towards the end of this year, where said model will also be locally-assembled (CKD) at Chery Corporate Malaysia’s plant in Shah Alam. That said, only the petrol version of the J5 is confirmed for debut here, with its EV version still under consideration by Omoda | Jaecoo Malaysia.
You can check out the new Jaecoo J5 SUV up close at the ongoing Omoda | Jaecoo Carnival, taking place from Aug 21 to 24 at Car Park 3 of Desa Parkcity, next to Plaza Arkadia, from 10 AM to 10 PM.
