Seiko Commemorates the Datsun 240Z with Limited-Edition Collection
Seiko commemorates the legendary Datsun 240Z rally car with three limited-edition timepieces based on the Speedtimer.
Seiko is no stranger to motorsport or automotive collaborations, and the Japanese watchmaker just unveiled its latest motorsport collection. It commemorates the legendary Datsun 240Z rally car, featuring three limited-edition timepieces based on the Prospex Speedtimer.
Seiko SPB517 Datsun 240Z
We’ll start with the first model, the SPB517, which is perhaps the most retro-looking out of the three, where the Datsun-ification only comes in the form of the retro Datsun badge on the dial, as well as both the red accents and a motorsport-inspired countdown bezel.
Flip the watch and you’ll notice the period-accurate Datsun badge on the caseback, while the black strap gets a red hue on the backside to ensure correct colour coordination with the 240Z rally car. Not to forget, only 2,500 pieces of the SBP517 will be produced, as indicated by the caseback monogram.
Seiko SSC957 Datsun 240Z
Next in line is the SSC957, which is the most ‘conventional’-looking out of the three. The 41.4-mm solar-powered chronograph serves as a more modern take on the classic 240Z rally car, with the only Datsun visual present on the front being the lettering and the red accents around its bezel.
The caseback, however, features a more intricate monogram of the actual 240Z rally car and text that says only 4,000 units are available. Thanks to its solar power, the SSC957 gets up to six months of power reserve when fully charged, making it the most practical choice out of the trio.
Seiko SRQ057 Datsun 240Z
The last piece, and perhaps the rarest one, is the SRQ057 automatic chronograph with Seiko’s own Caliber 8R48 movement. It features a black tachymeter bezel and the script Datsun logo, paying homage to vintage Speedtimer designs.
Measuring at 42 mm with an all-black leather strap, the SRQ057 is also the largest of the three, and its caseback features the same retro Datsun logo as the SSC957. With only 500 units available, we’d reckon this will fetch the best resale value out of the three in the collection.
This limited-edition Seiko x Datsun 240Z collection will be available globally from Sept 2025, exclusively through Seiko boutiques and select retail partners. Prices start at $1,000 (RM4,233) for the solar-powered SSC957, $1,150 (RM4,868) for the SBP17, and $3,200 (RM13,547) for the 500-unit-only SRQ057.
