Suzuki eVitara EV Teased by Suzuki Cars Malaysia – Launching Soon?
Suzuki Cars Malaysia has published a teaser of the eVitara EV SUV on its official social media channels. Coming soon?
It appears that the compact Suzuki Fronx won’t be the only new metal by Suzuki set to debut in Malaysia, as Suzuki Cars Malaysia has just posted about the Suzuki eVitara on its official social media channel.
From its official Facebook page, the post about the eVitara is accompanied by a caption that reads, “Will we be able to see this beauty on Malaysian roads or off-roads anytime soon? Only time will tell.”
While it is not an outright teaser, we’d reckon those words are enough to indicate the company’s interest in bringing Suzuki’s first production EV into our market. For those who aren’t familiar with the eVitara, this subcompact EV SUV is essentially a Suzuki-badged version of the Toyota Urban Cruiser, although it debuted earlier than its Toyota-badged twin.
Dimension-wise, the eVitara spans 4,275 mm long, 1,800 mm wide, 1,635 mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2,700 mm, making it on par with other B-segment EV SUVs in our market, including the BYD Atto 2 and the MG S5 EV, to name a few.
Unlike the Jimny, the new eVitara gets a pretty modern cabin setup, featuring tons of tech amenities and creature comforts. Key highlights include a 10.1-inch central infotainment screen, a larger 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a floating central console housing the dial-style gear selector and cup holders, a powered driver’s seat, and many more.
On the powertrain front, the eVitara is offered in both single-motor FWD rated at 144 PS and 189 Nm and dual-motor AWD guises that get a higher output of 184 PS and 300 Nm. Two battery options are available, namely the smaller 49-kWh unit exclusively for the FWD and the larger 61-kWh unit offered to both the FWD and AWD, capable of delivering up to 500 km of driving range.
So folks, what do you think of the Suzuki eVitara? Could this B-segment EV SUV mark a new electrified venture for Suzuki Cars Malaysia, and how will it fare against its more affordable Chinese adversaries?
