Transport Ministry Pushes MAHB To Keep KLIA Aerotrain Glitch-Free
The Transport Ministry has reminded Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) to keep Kuala Lumpur International Airport’s (KLIA) Aerotrain running reliably, as thousands of passengers depend on it every day.
The service, which resumed on July 1 after years of replacement works, has already moved nearly two million travellers between the main terminal and the satellite building.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke said that shows just how critical the link is.
“When the Aerotrain stops, the airport stops. That’s why we want MAHB to monitor it closely and make sure maintenance is done daily,” he said in a Bernama report.
While the system has experienced a few technical hiccups since restarting, Loke noted that overall performance has been encouraging. .jpg)
"Still, issues involving mechanical, electrical or software components can happen anytime," he added, warning that even short disruptions could inconvenience thousands.
To reduce risks, MAHB has assigned a team dedicated to keeping the service smooth, especially during busy hours.
The ministry has also insisted the contractor take full responsibility for any faults while the project remains under warranty. .jpg)
The Aerotrain briefly grabbed headlines in early July when operations had to be halted after heavy rain flooded a tunnel. It has since been fully restored.
The new driverless train is part of a RM456 million overhaul under MAHB’s wider RM742 million airport transformation plan, which aims to lift KLIA’s profile as a regional hub.
