Govt Will Tighten RON95 Subsidy Checks For E-Hailing Drivers

Putrajaya is tightening control over subsidised RON95 petrol by tapping into e-hailing companies’ system data to monitor drivers’ fuel usage.
Finance Minister II Amir Hamzah Azizan said the move will ensure that only eligible drivers benefit from the subsidy and prevent misuse by those exceeding their monthly quota.
“Active e-hailing drivers can apply through their platform, and usage will be verified using trip records. This ensures the subsidised fuel is genuinely used for work purposes,” Amir said, adding that daily limits will also be introduced to stop excessive consumption.

Under the Budi Madani RON95 programme, all Malaysians aged 16 and above with a valid driving licence can buy up to 300 litres of RON95 a month at RM1.99 per litre.
Petrol stations nationwide are already equipped with the necessary machines, and oil companies have enabled the system at payment terminals both inside and outside stations.
“Most of the preparations are ready, though minor hiccups can be expected with any new rollout. We ask the public to be patient and the government is committed to making this work,” Amir added.

The initiative aims to strike a balance between helping citizens manage living costs and plugging subsidy leakages, especially from commercial misuse.
Authorities believe closer monitoring of high-volume users, including e-hailing drivers, will make the system fairer for everyone.
