The Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) released its monthly vehicle sales figures today, and Aug 2025 saw it reached 73,041 units. This marks a 4.2% increase from July’s 70,057 units.

The association touts that the rebound was driven by higher stock availability from July’s strong production of 71,439 units, aggressive Merdeka promotions, and the launch of new models.

As for year-on-year (YoY) basis, sales in Aug 2025 registered a slight rise of 0.6% compared to the 72,580 units sold in the same month last year. Passenger vehicle (PV) sales stood at 67,302 units (0% YoY), while commercial vehicle (CV) sales improved to 5,739 units (+3% YoY).

Cumulatively, total industry sales for the Jan–Aug 2025 period amounted to 516,862 units (-4% YoY), down from 537,532 units in the same period of 2024. PV sales contributed 478,824 units (-3% YoY), while CV sales totaled 38,038 units (-16% YoY).

MAA cautioned that Sept 2025 sales may soften, citing fewer working days due to four public holidays and a possible “wait-and-see” stance among buyers ahead of the 2026 National Budget announcement, which is expected to reveal details of the upcoming RON95 petrol subsidy rationalisation.
