The MG4 EV hatch line-up when it was first launched in Malaysia back in 2024. Things have been revised to just three variants now with lowered prices too.

MG Motor Malaysia (SAIC Motor Malaysia) revealed this week it has streamlined the MG4 EV hatch variant line-up for the local market. Also revised are prices for which, and they’re quite significant.

Firstly, the firm has dropped the Standard variant, meaning variant count has reduced to just three too. Entry to the range starts for the Lux guise now, and the Lux Extended Range not sits as the mid-range offering below the XPower performance range-topper.

With the 'Standard' grade now dropped, the MG4 Lux variant now serves as the entry point to the EV hatch, and it's now priced from just RM100,888.

As for prices, the new ‘base’ Lux variant now commands RM100,888, thus marking a sizeable RM28,741 reduction from its initial RM129,629 price when it was first launched in Malaysia back in March 2024.

Similarly, the Lux Extended and flagship XPower guises see prices dropped by RM20,741 respectively. The former now commands RM128,888 instead of RM149,629, whilst the latter flagship now goes for just RM138,888.

What continues unchanged are the warranties included for said prices. It firstly sees a 7-year or 150,000 KM base vehicle warranty, followed by an 8-year or  180,000 KM EV battery warranty and an 8-year or 160,000 KM drive motor and motor control unit coverage.

All three variants share the same capped AC charging speed of 11 kW, as well as the ability to draw in up to 135 kW of DC fast-charging inputs.

As a refresher, the MG4 is primed with a 64 kWh NMC-type battery pack in the Lux guise, and it juices a rear-mounted e-motor driving the rear wheels (RWD) with 203 PS to enable both 0-100 km/h sprints in 7.7 secs and a claimed 435 KM max range.

Move up the Lux Extended Range and it gains a larger 77 kWh NMC battery pack with a peppier motor outputting 245 PS and 350 Nm. IN turn, this yields a quicker 0-100 km/h sprint time of 6.1 secs and significant longer claimed max range of 520 KM.

The flagship XPower guise instead brings a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive (AWD) setup serving a super-/hyper-hatch figures of 435 PS and 600 Nm and rapid century sprint time of 3.8 secs. It’s only drawback here is the shorter claimed range of 385 KM.

The MG4 XPower flagship serves as the peppiest and quickest of the lot as it can despatch 0-100 km/ h in just 3.8 secs thanks to its 425 PS dual-motor, AWD setup.

As for charging speeds, all three grades benefit with the ability to draw in up to 135 kW DC fast-charging inputs. Said trio also share the same capped AC charging speed of 11 kW.
