The government has confirmed that toll rates on 10 major highways nationwide will remain unchanged next year, a move aimed at easing the burden on road users and protecting public welfare.

Following the announcement, the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) assured motorists that their interests will continue to be safeguarded through safe, smooth and quality highway services.

Its director-general Sazali Harun said highway concessionaires will be closely monitored to ensure operations and maintenance meet the required standards.

"This includes upgrading rest and service areas as well as lay-bys to make them more comfortable and user-friendly. New and improved facilities, such as electric vehicle (EV) chargers, will also be added to meet the needs of today’s drivers," he said in a Bernama report.

LLM will also continue to strengthen traffic flow management efforts to reduce congestion and shorten travel times, ensuring highways remain efficient and relevant for daily use.

The toll freeze was announced by Works Minister Alexander Nanta Linggi and is part of a wider initiative introduced by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on July 23, which he described as an appreciation for Malaysians.

While the decision means the government will have to absorb an estimated RM591.56 million in financial costs, Sazali said the move is expected to benefit nearly one million highway users every day.

The highways involved in the toll freeze are Grand Saga, LATAR, the North Klang Straits Bypass, Senai–Desaru Expressway, East Coast Expressway Phase 2, South Klang Valley Expressway, Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Bridge, DUKE, MEX and the Butterworth Outer Ring Road.
