Jan 2026 saw a total of 64,298 units of new vehicles being sold, marking a 29% decrease over the previous month.

New vehicle sales in Malaysia reached 64,298 units in Jan 2026, as reported by the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA). This figure marks a 29% decrease in the total industry volume (TIV) over the previous month, where 90,716 units were delivered back in Dec 2025 alone.

That said, the Jan 2026 sales figure still marks a year-to-date increase of 27% over the previous year, which saw only 50,449 units delivered in Jan 2025 alone.

Of the total 64,298 units delivered last month, 60,369 of them were passenger cars, while commercial vehicles only accounted for 3,929 units.

As for the vehicle production, Jan 2026 saw a total of 60,866 vehicles being assembled, marking a slight increase of 6% over the same period in the previous year.

MAA attributed this TIV drop to the advanced purchase recorded in the previous month, which was the highest monthly TIV ever recorded in the entire history of the Malaysian automotive industry.

As for the positive YTD figure, MAA said this was mainly contributed by the spillover effect from new model launches towards the end of 2025.

Looking ahead, MAA noted that vehicle sales are expected to subside in Feb 2026 due to the short working month of only 17 days contributed by the Chinese New Year festivities.
