Changan Auto Is Bringing 4 Different Car Brands To Malaysia? Here’s Your 2-Minute Guide

Just when you thought the Malaysian automotive market couldn’t get any more crowded, another giant is preparing to land on our shores.

According to a report by Paultan, Changan Auto, one of China’s "Big Four" automakers alongside Geely, BYD, and Chery is set to arrive in Malaysia by Q3 or Q4 of 2026.

But here’s the twist: they aren't just bringing one brand. They are bringing an entire "multiverse" of sub-brands. If you’re confused by all the new names, don’t worry. Here is a 2-minute "cheat sheet" to help you understand.

Changan: The "Main" Brand

Think of this as the foundation. Changan will be the primary brand name for most of the models coming here.

The Model to Watch: In Malaysia, we can expect to see a range of SUVs like the Changan CS55, which will likely come in both traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) and hybrid (HEV) versions.

Nevo: The EV Specialist

Sitting on the same level as the main Changan brand is Nevo. While Changan handles the petrol and hybrids, Nevo is strictly all-electric. To make things easy for us, the report indicates that these cars will be badged as "Changan Nevo" in Malaysia.

The Model to Watch: The Nevo Q05, which is expected to be one of the brand's primary "volume movers" (meaning they expect to sell a lot of them!).

Deepal: The Sporty Lifestyle Pick

Positioned one level above the main brand, Deepal is designed for a younger, trendier crowd. It’s sportier and more tech-focused. Like Nevo, these will also carry the "Changan" prefix here (e.g., Changan Deepal S07).

The Models to Watch: The Deepal S05 and S07 SUVs. Sleek, futuristic-looking cars.

Avatr: The "Chinese Lexus"

This is the "Boss" level. Avatr (formerly a joint project with NIO) is being positioned as the luxury flagship, Changan’s answer to Lexus or Tesla. Unlike the others, Avatr will have its own standalone identity and showrooms in Malaysia. It won’t have the "Changan" name on the front because it’s in a league of its own.

The Models to Watch: The Avatr 07 and Avatr 11. These are high-end luxury EVs built with tech input from giants like Huawei and CATL.

Wait, What About The Pick-up Truck?

For those who prefer something more "rugged," the Changan Hunter is also in the mix for Malaysia. Interestingly, we might only get the Range Extended Electric Vehicle (REEV) version, essentially an electric truck with a petrol generator, similar to what is currently sold in Thailand.

When Can You Buy One?

As reported by Paultan's Farid Awaludin from the Changan headquarters in Chongqing, the brand launch is expected toward the end of this year, with a full product rollout continuing into 2027. While there is a factory in Thailand, the company is already eyeing Local Assembly (CKD) for Malaysia to keep those prices competitive.

The arrival of Changan means the "Big Four" of China are finally all here. Whether you want a budget-friendly hybrid or a luxury EV that looks like a spaceship, the second half of 2026 is going to be very interesting for Malaysian car buyers.

Which sub-brand are you most excited for? Is it the sporty Deepal or the luxury Avatr? Let us know in the comments!
