Mat Rempit Shut Down Linkedua Highway Near JPO So They Could Race — Grown Men Aged Up To 45 Arrested
![]()
"Ingat highway ni bapak dia punya ke?"
That was the collective rage across Malaysian social media after a shocking 33-second video began going viral on Saturday.
Motorists cruising along the Linkedua Highway near Johor Premium Outlets (JPO) found themselves brought to a complete standstill, not because of a breakdown or a crash, but because a group of street racers decided to forcibly shut down the entire highway just to host an illegal drag race. Fortunately, public fury was swiftly met with police action.
TL;DR — What Happened On Linkedua Highway
- The Incident: Street racers completely closed off traffic from KM33 to KM31 on the Linkedua Highway (Senai North to JPO exit) to hold an illegal drag race.
- Viral Video: A 33-second clip went viral over the weekend, showing spectators standing at the highway shoulder while vehicles were forced to halt for two racing bikes.
- The Arrests: IPD Kulai police tracked down and arrested eight suspects at 11:45 AM on Sunday, revealing they were aged between 26 and 45 years old.
- Substance Test: All eight individuals tested negative for drugs during urine screenings.
- Court Remand: Police brought the suspects to the Magistrates' Court for remand under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
A 33-Second Clip That Triggered Widespread Anger
The incident occurred along a busy stretch of the Linkedua Highway stretching from Kilometer 33 (Senai North interchange) down to Kilometer 31 (JPO exit).
In the viral video, a group of motorcyclists occupied the lanes and stood along the road shoulder. Instead of letting public traffic pass, they actively held back oncoming cars and lorries so two motorcycles could battle it out in an illegal straight-line drag race.
The blatant disregard for public safety and the audacity to treat a major highway like a private track immediately sparked widespread anger across Malaysian social feeds.
Plot Twist: The Suspects Weren't Rebel Teens
While public assumption often blames rebellious teenagers for mat rempit stunts, the actual crackdown revealed a much different demographic.
Acting on the viral video footage, officers from the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division (BSPT) of IPD Kulai launched an immediate investigation. By 11:45 AM yesterday (Sunday, 23 August), police successfully rounded up eight male suspects believed to be connected to the highway blockage.
The biggest shocker? The suspects were grown men aged between 26 and 45 years old.
According to Johor Police Chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad, urine tests conducted on all eight men came back negative for drug use. They were subsequently brought to the Magistrates' Court for a remand order under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
PDRM Hunts Remaining Spectators & Racers
The police crackdown isn't stopping with these eight arrests. Authorities confirmed that ongoing investigations aim to identify the two specific motorcycle riders featured in the racing video, as well as the crowd of onlookers who lined the highway shoulders to cheer them on.
