Summary

The Ferrari 849 Testarossa is the marque’s new flagship series-production plug-in hybrid supercar, replacing the SF90 Stradale while reviving one of Ferrari’s most recognisable historic names.

Malaysia receives both the 849 Testarossa Coupé and 849 Testarossa Spider, priced from RM5.2 million and RM5.7 million respectively. Both prices include Malaysian import duties and taxes but exclude options, registration and insurance.

Its 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 works with three electric motors to produce 762 KW (1,036 HP / 1,050 PS), the highest output of any regular-production Ferrari at launch. Ferrari does not publish a combined system torque figure, while the V8 alone develops 842 NM. A 7.45 KWH lithium-ion battery enables up to 25 KM of pure-electric driving.

Interior

Dashboard

The cabin blends a traditional horizontal berlinetta dashboard with a more focused single-seater-inspired cockpit.

A large digital instrument display sits directly ahead of the driver, while a separate passenger display is integrated into the dashboard.

Aluminium-framed C-shaped air vents and floating architectural sections give the cabin a more sculptural appearance than the SF90.

Centre Console

The redesigned centre tunnel uses a more minimalist layout and positions frequently used controls closer to the driver.

A distinctive F80-inspired gated gear selector sits on a raised floating section.

Wireless smartphone charging is integrated within the centre tunnel.

Instrument Cluster

The driver receives a large, fully digital instrument display incorporating both conventional instrumentation and infotainment functions.

It displays speed, engine revs, selected gear, battery state, hybrid energy flow and navigation information.

The screen also allows rapid configuration of the electric drivetrain modes selected through the eManettino.

Seats

Two main seating configurations are available.

The Comfort seats combine greater cushioning with electrically adjustable comfort-focused construction.

Optional carbon-fibre racing seats provide significantly stronger lateral support and reduce weight, particularly when specified as part of the Assetto Fiorano package.

Space

The 849 Testarossa is a strict two-seat supercar.

Ferrari has reduced the thickness of the lower door panels and redesigned the centre tunnel to improve usable cabin space and entry.

Additional room has also been created for the passenger-side glove compartment and storage shelf behind the seats.

Steering Functions

The redesigned steering wheel marks a return to physical controls, following feedback on Ferrari’s previous touch-sensitive interface.

The iconic physical Engine Start button returns, while Manettino and eManettino controls allow the driver to alter chassis and hybrid settings without removing their hands from the wheel.

Large paddle shifters operate the eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

Storage Space

Cabin storage is limited but improved compared with the SF90.

A larger passenger-side glove compartment, door storage and a shelf behind the seats provide space for smaller personal items.

The front luggage compartment provides additional dedicated cargo capacity.

Cup Holders

Front cup-holder provision is incorporated around the centre-console area.

As a two-seat performance-focused supercar, the cabin prioritises driver controls and structural packaging rather than extensive beverage storage.

Charging Ports

USB connectivity is provided for mobile devices.

A wireless smartphone charging pad is integrated into the central tunnel.

The plug-in hybrid battery can also be externally charged through its dedicated AC charging connection.

Build Quality

The cabin combines leather, Alcantara, carbon fibre and aluminium with extensive customisation through Ferrari’s Tailor Made and personalisation programmes.

Machined metallic controls provide more tactile interaction than Ferrari’s previous heavily touch-based interface.

The optional Assetto Fiorano package adds further exposed carbon fibre and lightweight Alcantara-trimmed components.

Boot Space

The 849 Testarossa provides 74 L of dedicated luggage capacity.

The compact front compartment is primarily suited to small soft bags and personal items.

Additional light luggage can be stored on the shelf behind the two seats.

Exterior

Body Dimensions

The Coupé measures 4,718 MM long, approximately 1,999 MM wide excluding mirrors and 1,225 MM tall, with a 2,650 MM wheelbase. Width including mirrors reaches 2,304 MM.

Dry weight stands at 1,570 KG with lightweight optional equipment, with a 45:55 front-to-rear weight distribution.

The Spider shares the same length and wheelbase but stands 1,186 MM tall and weighs approximately 1,660 KG dry.

Front View

The front introduces an architectural design inspired by Ferrari sports prototypes from the 1970s.

A dark horizontal band stretches between the headlamp areas, while the redesigned bumper incorporates an 18% larger front air intake than the SF90 to improve cooling.

Extensive aerodynamic channels beneath and around the front bodywork contribute to a total downforce figure of approximately 415 KG at 250 KM/H.

Rear View

The rear is dominated by Ferrari’s distinctive twin-tail architecture, inspired partly by historic 512 racing prototypes.

Two passive aerodynamic tail sections work together with an active rear spoiler, which can transition between low-drag and high-downforce positions in less than one second.

In its high-downforce configuration, the active element contributes approximately 100 KG of downforce at 250 KM/H.

Headlamps

The 849 Testarossa uses slim full-LED headlamps integrated into the dark horizontal front graphic.

LED daytime running lights give the car a distinctive wide lighting signature.

Automatic High Beam is included within the driver-assistance package.

Tail Lamps

The rear uses slim full-LED tail lamps positioned between the sculpted twin-tail sections.

Their horizontal design emphasises the width of the car while leaving the central area visually focused on the high-mounted exhaust outlets and aerodynamic hardware.

Side Mirror

Aerodynamically sculpted exterior mirrors provide electric adjustment and power-folding functionality.

Blind Spot Detection provides additional monitoring of adjacent traffic.

The mirror placement and surrounding bodywork have also been optimised to minimise aerodynamic disturbance.

Brakes

The 849 Testarossa uses an upgraded carbon-ceramic braking system developed with Brembo.

Front discs measure approximately 410 x 38 MM, while the rear uses 372 x 34 MM discs.

The braking system also incorporates ABS Evo and regenerative braking, with revised blending between electrical and hydraulic deceleration for more consistent pedal feel.

Wheels

Standard specification uses 20-INCH forged alloy wheels.

Front tyres measure 265/35 R20, while the rear uses substantially wider 325/30 R20 tyres.

Ferrari-developed tyre options include Pirelli P Zero R and Bridgestone Potenza Sport, while the optional Assetto Fiorano package can be specified with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres and carbon-fibre wheels.

Features

Active Safety

The 849 Testarossa incorporates ABS Evo, Electronic Stability Control, traction control, electronic differential management and Ferrari Dynamic Enhancer 2.0.

Ferrari’s latest Side Slip Control 9.0 coordinates the drivetrain, brakes, steering and chassis systems.

Regenerative braking is integrated with the carbon-ceramic friction brakes to maximise deceleration while maintaining consistent pedal response.

Passive Safety

The passenger compartment uses a lightweight aluminium-intensive structure engineered around Ferrari’s mid-engined hybrid architecture.

Front and side airbags protect both occupants, while seatbelt pretensioners and electronic restraint management are also provided.

The high-voltage battery incorporates automatic isolation and protection systems in the event of a serious impact.

Drive Modes

The eManettino provides four hybrid powertrain modes – eDrive, Hybrid, Performance and Qualify.

eDrive enables pure-electric operation, Hybrid automatically balances petrol and electric power, Performance maintains battery charge for sustained high output, while Qualify prioritises maximum performance.

The conventional Manettino simultaneously manages chassis settings including Wet, Sport, Race and progressively reduced stability-control intervention.

Infotainment

Infotainment functions are integrated primarily into the digital driver display rather than a conventional large central touchscreen.

The passenger receives a separate display for vehicle and entertainment information.

Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are supported, together with Bluetooth and Ferrari connected services.

The MyFerrari Connect system allows selected vehicle information to be monitored remotely through the dedicated smartphone application.

Driver Assistance

Despite its performance focus, the 849 Testarossa receives a comprehensive assistance package.

Equipment includes Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Automatic Emergency Braking with cyclist detection, Blind Spot Detection, Lane Departure Warning and Lane Keeping Assist.

Also included are Automatic High Beam, Traffic Sign Recognition, Surround View, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and driver-fatigue monitoring.

Sound System

A seven-speaker audio system is offered as the standard arrangement.

A more powerful 13-speaker Burmester premium audio system is available depending on specification.

However, much of the car’s acoustic character comes from the newly tuned flat-plane-crank V8 and its revised exhaust and gearshift strategies.

Performance

Engine

The 849 Testarossa uses a heavily revised 3,990 CC twin-turbocharged flat-plane-crank V8.

The combustion engine alone produces 610 KW (819 HP / 830 PS) at 7,500 RPM and 842 NM at 6,500 RPM.

Its new turbochargers are the largest ever fitted to a Ferrari production road car, supported by redesigned cylinder heads, exhaust manifolds, intake plenums and internal components.

Three electric motors contribute up to approximately 220 PS to the hybrid system.

Combined maximum output reaches 762 KW (1,036 HP / 1,050 PS).

Ferrari does not publish a combined system torque figure, so the official 842 NM figure refers specifically to the V8 engine.

Transmission

The 849 Testarossa uses an eight-speed F1 dual-clutch transmission mounted at the rear.

An MGU-K electric motor is positioned between the V8 and gearbox, allowing electric torque assistance, regenerative braking and torque-fill during gear changes.

Shift calibration has been revised using experience from the SF90 XX Stradale to provide faster response and a more dramatic sound during aggressive upshifts.

Drivetrain

The 849 Testarossa features electrified all-wheel drive.

Two independent electric motors power the front wheels and provide highly responsive torque vectoring.

The V8 and third electric motor drive the rear axle through the eight-speed transmission.

In eDrive mode, the vehicle can operate solely through the front electric axle.

Acceleration

The Coupé accelerates from 0-100 KM/H in approximately 2.25 seconds, while Ferrari officially states a figure of under 2.3 seconds.

The 0-200 KM/H sprint takes 6.35 seconds, with maximum speed exceeding 330 KM/H.

The Spider is similarly capable of sub-2.3-second 0-100 KM/H acceleration, with 0-200 KM/H taking approximately 6.5 seconds.

Fuel Consumption

The plug-in hybrid system uses an 80-cell 7.45 KWH lithium-ion battery mounted low within the chassis.

Pure-electric range stands at 25 KM, with electric-only driving possible at speeds of up to approximately 130 KM/H.

Maximum output in pure eDrive operation is 120 KW (161 HP / 163 PS).

The battery can be externally recharged through a Type 2 AC connection, while regenerative braking and the combustion engine can also replenish the pack.

No DC fast-charging capability is provided.

Ferrari’s official fuel-consumption and CO₂ homologation figures were still listed as pending in the original technical specification.

Comfort

Convenience

The 849 Testarossa features keyless access, automatic climate control, automatic lighting, rain-sensing wipers and electrically adjustable comfort seats depending on configuration.

A front axle lift system is available to help clear steep ramps and speed bumps.

MyFerrari Connect provides remote access to selected vehicle information.

Rear Air Vents

The 849 Testarossa is a two-seat supercar and therefore has no rear passenger compartment or rear air vents.

Automatic climate control provides temperature management for the driver and front passenger only.

Ride Comfort

The standard 849 Testarossa uses electronically controlled MagneRide suspension, allowing the damping characteristics to change according to the selected Manettino setting.

Ferrari has revised chassis calibration to improve both outright grip and predictability at the limit.

The optional Assetto Fiorano package replaces the standard setup with more track-focused Multimatic dampers and springs approximately 35% lighter, reducing roll gradient by around 10%.

Sound Insulation

The 849 Testarossa is designed to preserve rather than suppress its mechanical character.

Ferrari deliberately increased V8 sound intensity at low and medium engine speeds and refined the exhaust note as the engine approaches its 8,300 RPM limiter.

During eDrive operation the vehicle can travel quietly on electric power, creating a dramatic contrast with the full hybrid powertrain under acceleration.

Wrap Up

Conclusion

The Ferrari 849 Testarossa significantly advances the formula established by the SF90 Stradale while retaining the same fundamental combination of a twin-turbocharged V8 and three electric motors.

Its 762 KW (1,036 HP / 1,050 PS) combined output makes it Ferrari’s most powerful regular-production model at launch, allowing the Coupé to reach 100 KM/H in around 2.25 seconds and exceed 330 KM/H.

The 7.45 KWH battery and 25 KM electric range are clearly designed around performance rather than long-distance electric commuting, while the two front motors provide both EV operation and sophisticated torque vectoring.

In Malaysia, the Coupé starts at RM5.2 million and the Spider at RM5.7 million, including duties and taxes but before options, registration and insurance.

With 415 KG of downforce at 250 KM/H, carbon-ceramic brakes, Side Slip Control 9.0, Ferrari Integrated Vehicle Estimator and an optional Assetto Fiorano package, the 849 Testarossa is considerably more than a styling update to the SF90 and serves as Ferrari’s new benchmark for series-production hybrid performance.
