The OMODA C9 PHEV is the plug-in hybrid flagship of the C9 range, combining a large five-seat coupé-SUV body with OMODA | JAECOO’s Super Hybrid System (SHS) and electric all-wheel drive.

Malaysia receives a single C9 PHEV AWD variant priced at RM208,800 on-the-road without insurance. The first 50 Malaysian units arrived fully imported, followed by locally assembled CKD production in Shah Alam. Although part of the wider Chery Group, the C9 is sold locally through OMODA | JAECOO Malaysia.

Its 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine and three-motor hybrid system produce a combined 395 KW (530 HP) and 650 NM, allowing 0-100 KM/H in 4.9 seconds. A 34.46 KWH LFP battery provides up to 145 KM WLTP pure-electric range, while the manufacturer also quotes 169 KM NEDC.

The cabin retains the premium horizontal layout of the petrol-powered C9.

A 12.3-INCH digital instrument display sits alongside a matching 12.3-INCH central infotainment touchscreen, creating a wide dual-screen appearance.

A Head-Up Display projects key driving information onto the windscreen.

The centre console houses storage, cup holders, drive controls and a 50 W ventilated wireless smartphone charger.

The electronic drivetrain controls require less space than a conventional mechanical transmission selector.

A panoramic glass roof further increases the sense of openness within the cabin.

A 12.3-INCH fully digital instrument cluster displays speed, fuel level, battery state, electric range and hybrid-system information.

Dedicated displays allow the driver to monitor energy flow between the petrol engine, electric motors and battery.

Despite the large plug-in hybrid battery, OMODA claims the same luggage-capacity figures as the petrol-powered C9.

The C9 PHEV measures 4,775 MM long, 1,920 MM wide and 1,671 MM tall, with a 2,800 MM wheelbase.

Kerb weight stands at approximately 2,210 KG, while the fuel tank holds 70 L.

Its broad body and sloping roofline give the C9 the proportions of a large D-segment coupé SUV while retaining a spacious five-seat cabin.

The PHEV retains the C9’s distinctive premium SUV design but introduces several subtle electrified-model details.

A Diamond Matrix air-intake grille dominates the front, accompanied by a revised bonnet and lower bumper designed to improve airflow and aerodynamic efficiency.

The front lighting signature incorporates distinctive Sigma-inspired LED daytime running lights.

The rear retains the C9’s broad full-width styling treatment and sloping coupé-like roofline.

A roof spoiler sits above the rear glass, while the PHEV receives model-specific badging to distinguish it from the petrol-powered C9.

A powered tailgate is standard.

The C9 PHEV features adaptive LED headlamps.

Equipment includes automatic high beam, Sigma-style LED daytime running lights, headlamp washers and dynamic front turn indicators.

A dynamic welcome-light sequence provides an additional lighting animation when approaching the vehicle.

The rear uses full-LED combination lamps with a wide horizontal lighting signature.

Dynamic lighting functions complement the front welcome sequence.

The C9 PHEV rides on 20-INCH multi-spoke alloy wheels.

These are fitted with 245/50 R20 Michelin e-Primacy tyres at both axles.

Unlike the petrol C9, which offers a full-size spare, the PHEV uses a tyre-repair kit to reduce packaging requirements around the hybrid battery.

Active safety equipment includes ABS, Electronic Brake-force Distribution, Brake Assist, Electronic Stability Programme and Traction Control.

Hill Start Assist, Hill Descent Control, Tyre Pressure Monitoring and an electronic speed limiter are also standard.

The C9 PHEV features a premium 14-speaker Sony audio system producing approximately 390 W.

Two dedicated speakers are integrated into the driver’s headrest.

The system is designed to provide more focused audio and navigation prompts to the driver while maintaining an immersive cabin soundstage.

The C9 PHEV uses a 1,498 CC turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine operating on a Miller-cycle combustion strategy.

The engine produces 105 KW (141 HP) and 215 NM.

The hybrid system incorporates two electric machines at the front together with a separate rear traction motor.

Official combined system output reaches 395 KW (530 HP) and 650 NM.

The C9 PHEV uses a three-speed Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (3-DHT).

Unlike simpler single-ratio hybrid systems, the three-speed arrangement allows the petrol engine to contribute directly to wheel propulsion across a wider operating range.

Maximum transmission efficiency is quoted at approximately 97.6%.

The C9 PHEV features electric all-wheel drive.

Its front hybrid drivetrain is supplemented by a separate 175 KW rear electric motor, enabling rapid torque distribution between both axles.

The front electric-motor system develops up to 165 KW and 390 NM, while the rear motor provides 175 KW and 310 NM.

Combined petrol-electric driving range is approximately 1,100 KM with a full battery and 70 L fuel tank.

Official weighted combined fuel consumption is approximately 1.4 L/100 KM.

Maximum AC charging input is 6.6 KW, with approximately 5.5 hours required for a 30-100% recharge.

Unlike many PHEVs, the C9 supports 70 KW CCS2 DC fast charging, allowing the battery to recharge from 30-80% in approximately 25 minutes.

Up to 6.6 KW V2L output is also supported.

Standard convenience equipment includes NFC key access, keyless entry and start, remote window operation, rain-sensing wipers and a powered tailgate.

The C9 PHEV also features a panoramic sunroof, electrically adjustable steering column and heated and ventilated seating for both rows.

Remote vehicle functions further improve everyday usability.

The C9 PHEV features dual-zone automatic climate control with dedicated rear air-conditioning vents.

The OMODA C9 PHEV significantly expands the capabilities of the petrol C9 by combining strong electric range with genuine high-performance output.

For RM208,800, its 530 HP and 650 NM Super Hybrid System delivers a 4.9-second 0-100 KM/H time and electric AWD, putting its straight-line performance far beyond most similarly priced D-segment SUVs.

Its 34.46 KWH LFP battery and 145 KM WLTP electric range are also substantial for a PHEV, while 70 KW DC charging makes the C9 much easier to use regularly as an electric vehicle than PHEVs restricted to AC charging.

Equipment is another major strength, including heated and ventilated front and rear seats, panoramic sunroof, Head-Up Display, 14-speaker Sony audio, Continuous Damping Control, 540-degree camera and comprehensive ADAS.

The main trade-offs are its substantial 2,210 KG kerb weight and the additional mechanical complexity of a turbocharged engine, three electric motors and three-speed hybrid transmission.

Nevertheless, its combination of 145 KM WLTP EV range, 1,100 KM total range, 530 HP performance, AWD and premium equipment at RM208,800 makes the C9 PHEV one of the more technically ambitious plug-in hybrid SUVs currently offered in Malaysia.
