Traffic Summons Syndicate Involving RM5mil In Bribes Among High-Profile Raid By MACC

According to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), eleven people were detained in October 2022 on suspicion of being part of a syndicate proposing to lessen compound fines for traffic summonses.
Datuk Tan Kang Sai, senior director of MACC's special operations division, said in a statement on Sunday (Dec 4) that the suspects were apprehended following investigations into the syndicate, which they think has been active since 2016, involving around RM5 million in bribes.
He stated that busting this syndicate was one of the high-profile instances that the MACC had successfully investigated.
"These cases pique the public's interest since the persons accused are not low-ranking officials, but rather senior officers who received bribes," he explained.
He also urged the people to serve as the MACC's eyes and ears.
"The people should not be frightened to report any corruption to the MACC since their anonymity would be guaranteed. Under the Whistleblowers Protection Act 2010, informants' identities are safeguarded and cannot be exposed to any party in any situation "He stated.
