Anthony Loke : Free Transport For PwD and Students To Be Discussed With KTMB and Prasarana
-full_normal.jpg)
Minister of Transport, YB Anthony Loke told BERNAMA today that his ministry would soon be discussing with the management of Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) and Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana) with regards to the implementation of free transport services for persons with disabilities (PwD) and students.
He further added that this matter was already in his department's plans with hopes that it will further aid and empower this group. He also added that KTMB had been advised to optimise the subsidy provided to them to benefit targeted groups such as the PwD and students.
Loke further added, "For example, we have commuters from Negeri Sembilan to Tanjung Malim, Padang Rengas to Alor Setar and trains on the east coast, but more information will be announced after Chinese New Year."
Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri also took to her twitter yesterday to announce this based on her discussion with Anthony Loke. She further added that the mechanism to provide free rides for the group will need to be properly studied and that currently this group is entitled to a 50 per cent fare discount which many are not benefiting from.
However from her twitter post, an interesting comment caught our eyes, which both ministries need to look into which is in regards to station accessibility for the PwD. So its best proper accessibility is addressed first for the free service to make the best of sense.
