DNGA-based Toyota Vios, Veloz Recalled For Faulty Suspension Fitment

It appears UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) has issued a recall specifically for the DNGA-based Veloz (left) and Vios (right) models.
Thanks to a letter to owners we sighted online via social media, it appears UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) has issued a recall specifically for the DNGA-based Vios and Veloz models.
Critically, it appears that this recall is NOT related to the recent Daihatsu scandal. Instead, this recall appears to address an isolated issue – faulty suspension fitment. Our source from within UMWT has confirmed that this latest recall only affects both models mentioned, but declined to elaborate further.

Based on the content of the letter to owners posted on social media, it details that the recall is meant to “retighten the front shock absorber nuts.” It goes on further to explain the problem being borne due to “improper tightening instruction on the nuts fixing the upper portions of the front shock absorbers.” In turn, tis could lead to the tightening torque of the nuts being insufficient.
Said letter even explains the consequences of not having said issue addressed by stating: “If the vehicle is operated continuously in this condition, the nuts may become loose, causing abnormal noise, and the nuts may come off, resulting loss of vehicle stability. Therefore, we are conducting this special service campaign to rectify this issue.”

The recall doesn't stem from the recent Daihatsu scandal, but improper fitment of front suspension components instead.
It is unclear at present just how many units of the DNGA-based Vios and Veloz are affected in this recall. As a refresher, UMWT introduced the DNGA-based Veloz crossover MPV back in Oct 2022 – several month after its Perodua-badge twin debuted first back in July that same year.
The Vios, on the other hand, which also underpins the same DNGA chassis platform, was introduced by UMWT in March 2023. The shared platform architecture likely explains why both share the same issue that’s prompting UMWT to facilitate this recall.
At present, UMWT remains tight-lipped about the matter, but an announcement is expected from the firm regarding which soon. At the very least, we can also expect a similar recall announcement performed by the road transport department (JPJ) soon.
