Chery Omoda 5 Recall Website Up ,Rear Axle Welding Issue Identified

Chery Auto Malaysia has issued another statement with regards to the faulty Omoda 5 rear axle issue. Through which, the firm emphasised its intent at being transparent with customers and updating them on all known issues.
Based on an internal investigation, a total of 600 units of the Omoda 5 have been recalled, and the effort sees the firm collaborating with the Ministry of Transport (MOT) to ensure that all affected vehicles meet the highest safety standards.

Just yesterday, the Road Transport Department (JPJ) issued a supplementary statement claiming that they will supervise the recall process and ensure that all impacted units are inspected, axle components replaced, and declared safe.
In light of this, Chery Auto Malaysia's VP, Lee Wen Hsiang, iterated in his press statement pledging the company's commitment at providing safe and reliable transportation solutions.
In accordance with this, Chery Auto Malaysia voluntarily scheduled a meeting to brief the Ministry of Transport (MOT) on the current product inspection status and the underlying cause of the Omoda 5’s axle issue.

In a prior statement, Chery Auto Malaysia says it performed a thorough inquiry with the component supplier. As a result, the automaker identified 600 units that may be affected by a similar issue due to the component supplier's facility upgrading exercise at the time.
Elaborating on this root cause, Lee said that the vendor reported that the problem was caused by a facility upgrade in which a worn-out tip of the automated welding machine was replaced with a new one. The replacement of the new welding tip resulted in the equipment being miscalibrated.
As a result, 60 units of the Omoda 5 in Malaysia were identified to have been fitted with the problematic part, all of which traced through their production date of August 15, 2023. Chery Auto Malaysia, on the other hand, went over and beyond by recalling 600 Omoda 5’s equipped with rear axles manufactured between August 14 and 17, 2023 as a precautionary measure.

“We are in the process of contacting customers with affected Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) to suggest that they bring their vehicles to our authorised service centres for a thorough check," adds Lee.
Chery Auto Malaysia has also established a specific website (https://www.chery.my/chery-product-update) where Omoda 5 owners may check if their vehicles are affected by entering their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).
The manufacturer has confirmed that the problem is restricted to the Omoda 5 model, and no other Chery vehicles are affected. The automaker adds that all its authorised service centres and personnel are fully equipped to assist concerned consumers.
As of May 3, 2024, Chery Auto Malaysia had successfully contacted 53% (32 of 60) of the owners affected by the recall. Customers who require further assistance should contact Chery Malaysia Customer Careline at +603-2771 7070 (Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM).
