On Going Highway Construction Collapse Near Desa Tun Razak

An overheight trailer has caused the partial on going highway flyover construction to collapse near Desa Tun Razak from Sungai Besi heading towards Bandar Tun Razak, causing a massive traffic jam in both directions.

At press time, there is a van trapped but there were no confirmation on how many victims and their status.

*Update - At 9:44pm, the Fire and Rescue department announced that a total of five victims were trapped in the van, four women and a male driver. Three of the victims made out alive, while two women were pronounced dead at scene. The victims aged between 30 to 45 years were sent to University Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Centre. Meanwhile, the driver of trailer has been arrested for further investigation at Sungai Besi Police Station.

*Update - At March 4, 2021, City Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Chief Assistant Commisioner Zulkefly Yahya reported that the 40 year-old trailer driver, has tested positive for methamphetamine after a urine test at the Dang Wangi Police headquarters.

Meanwhile, the driver of the van, Muhd Fairus Mohd Yusof sustained a broken left shoulder, internal bleeding and swelling to his lungs. The two other victims, Zaitun Zainal, 54 sustained injuries to her left leg, while Zakiyyah Yakop, 51, hurt her left calf. The victims who died were Nurina Edwin Abdullah, 47and Norhayati Abdullah, 42.

At thetime of the accident, the van was on its way to send passengers to their work place at Sensata Technologies factory in USJ 1, Subang Jaya.

Preliminary investigations found that the accident occurred after the trailer went throughpart of the MRR2 Highway near Bandar Tasik Selatan. When the trailer was passing through the location, it hit the flyover causing some materials to crash onto a van travelling from Ampang heading towards the Southern Intgrated Terminal (TBS), in Bandar Tasik Selatan.
