The Blue Oval, Charging To An Electrified Future With Their New F-150 Lightning

The Blue Oval is charging their way to an all-EV line-up for the US market, and now they’re furthering that effort with the new Ford F-150 Lightning.

As stated by the president of the Americas, Kumar Galhotra, the F-150 Lightning, along with the E-Transit and Mustang Mach-E, are just the start of the company’s EV journey.

He also claimed that Ford is working towards it right now and is just waiting for the time to declare when it will start selling only electric vehicles in the US.

However, the company has not yet affirmed a definite timeline, unlike its rival, the other giant automaker, General Motors that has set its goal on only producing and selling EVs by 2035.

For the European market, Ford did announce that it will phase out all internal combustion engines only by 2030.

Even so, Ford has taken an aggressive turn towards electrification with its $22 billion (RM 90,431,000,000) investment through 2025 to reinforce its battery-powered car positions.

In conjunction, the strategy in the US currently focuses on adding batteries to familiar nameplates of the company's icons.

First, the company came out with the Mustang Mach-E and now the electrifying newly revealed 2022 F-150 Lightning.

Furthermore, according to the company’s chief executive officer Jim Farley, an electric Ford Bronco is also a potential production in the future.

Observing Ford's past electrification tactic, it is unlikely that the company will acquire battery packs from outside entities.

Thus, along with the reveal of their new electric truck, a new joint venture with Korea's SK Innovation to assemble battery packs in the US, called the BlueOvalSK, has been announced.

Albeit, even though Europe has charged into EVs more rapidly, it is not the same case for the US. As Galhotra hinted, it will take quite some time for the country to get acquainted with the notion.

Ford predicts the overall EV sales will start to pick up by the middle of the decade, and perhaps an electric pickup truck is just the jolt the Blue Oval needs.
