Selangor police recorded the settlement of 258,345 traffic summonses worth RM19.51 million during <a rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.carz.com.my/2025/12/traffic-summons-discount-ends-tougher-penalties-ahead-should-authorities-extend" target="_blank" style="">the two-month 70% summons discount programme, which ran from Nov 1 to Dec 30</a>.
Chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said figures as of Dec 30 showed collections from 125,759 POL 257 summonses, <a rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.carz.com.my/2025/10/mydigital-id-now-mandatory-for-mybayar-pdrm-access" target="_blank" style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; white-space-collapse: preserve;">amounting to RM11.49 million, and 132,586 POL 170A summonses worth RM8.02 million.</a>"Collections were led by Klang Selatan district police headquarters, which recorded RM2.7 million, followed by Petaling Jaya with RM2.1 million and Kajang with RM1.7 million," he said.

Shazeli stated the programme also highlighted a growing shift towards digital payment methods among the public. While cash payments still made up a slightly larger share at RM10.06 million, <a rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.carz.com.my/2025/08/pdrm-elderly-drivers-involved-in-nearly-7000-fatalities-from-20192024" target="_blank" style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; white-space-collapse: preserve;">e-payments accounted for a significant RM9.45 million, reflecting increasing acceptance of cashless transactions.</a>“This balance shows that the public is increasingly inclined towards faster and more efficient payment methods, in line with the nation’s digital transformation efforts,” he added.

He also expressed appreciation to the public for their strong response following the conclusion of the discount programme, which was implemented across all traffic counters under the Selangor police contingent.“The initiative not only helped ease the financial burden on the public, but also encouraged greater awareness and compliance with road traffic laws, contributing to safer roads for everyone,” Shazeli concluded.

During the campaign, JPJ collected RM93.51 million, clearing over 700,000 summonses, with the Automated Awareness Safety System (AwAS) offences accounting for more than half of the payments. But with the clock now stopped, those who missed the deadline are facing a tough new reality.From Jan next year, a tiered payment system comes into play. Pay within 15 days and you still get 50% off, 16-30 days gives 33%, after 31 days it’s full price, and after 61 days, you’ll be blacklisted and facing court actions.

JPJ will block your NRIC and vehicle from renewing road tax or driving license, and driving without either could mean impoundment or immediate legal trouble.
For persistent offenders, the new system also means mandatory court appearances, and ignoring a court date could lead to a warrant of arrest. The revamped KEJARA demerit system will now add points automatically after a summons expires, which could lead to warnings, license suspension, or even revocation for repeat offenders.

China Set to Overtake Japan as World’s Top Auto Seller in 2025

Starting Jan 1, 2026, <a rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.carz.com.my/2025/12/ktmb-expands-ets-east-coast-rail-services-from-jan-1" target="_blank" style="">KTMB will officially end the Southern Express service on the Gemas–JB Sentral–Gemas route,</a> after nine years of operation. The move comes as part of a plan to realign services and support the Gemas–Johor Bahru Electrified Double-Tracking Project.
KTMB said the change is meant to provide a more efficient, integrated travel experience for passengers. From Jan, <a rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.carz.com.my/2025/12/ktmbs-ets3-to-jb-sentral-launches-dec-12-with-30-discount" target="_blank" style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; white-space-collapse: preserve;">commuters in the southern sector will be served by eight daily Electric Train Service (ETS) trips to JB Sentral</a>, offering a modern, comfortable, and environmentally friendly journey.

For those who rely on other southern routes, the Ekspres Rakyat Timuran (ERT) service between JB Sentral and Tumpat will continue as usual, while the Shuttle Timuran remains available for stop-to-stop travel between Gemas and Tumpat."Every journey, memory, and nostalgia shared with the Southern Express will always be remembered by all of us at KTMB,” KTMB’s Chief Technical Officer and acting CEO, Ahmad Nizam Mohamed Amin said.

<h6 style="text-align: justify;"><div style="text-align: justify;"><img src="https://static-content-live.caricarz.com/media_library/post/21012/16619488/conversions/download---2025-10-01T140759.149-full_normal.jpg" data-media-id="16619488" alt="download---2025-10-01T140759.149.jpeg" style="font-size: 0.8125rem; background-color: transparent; width: 100%;"></div><div style="text-align: center;">A local road safety expert recently suggested that instalment-based payment scheme may be a viable solution towards unpaid and outstanding summonses and fines.</div></h6> Yesterday, a <a rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.nst.com.my/news/nation/2025/12/1346362/instalment-payments-proposed-improve-traffic-fine-compliance" target="_blank">report</a> by local daily New Straits Time (NST) had quoted a local road safety expert who suggested that the government and relevant enforcement agencies should offer instalment-based payment option to resolve the problem of unpaid summonses.Dr Law Teik Hua, head associate professor at the Universiti Putra Malaysia Road Safety Research Centre, touts that allowing offending motorists to pay fines and summonses in manageable instalments will also directly tackle affordability issues towards which, especially amongst lower income groups – the ‘B40’.“By providing standardised and widely announced instalment payments, we confront head-on the ability-to-pay issue,” argues Dr Law. He further added that such a method can convert an unaffordable large sum or amount into a manageable and consistent outlay too.“This approach says: we understand your financial constraints and will help you pay, but the commitment remains non-negotiable,” continued Dr Law further. He also noted that such a system must be paired with firm enforcement, which may include automatic penalties such as road tax or licence renewal freeze for defaulters.With unpaid summonses and fines, Dr Law further argues that the issue lies in enforcement. “If actual punishment is absent, no rational person, regardless of income level, would feel compelled to pay. Could instalment-based payments reduce this effectively?</div></h6> Lastly, Dr Law also added that inconsistent enforcement further contributes to creating a culture and mindset where summonses and fines are seen as “optional”. Given that the Road Transport Department (JPJ) reportedly has up to RM1.4 billion in unpaid summonses and fines, this perhaps isn’t the worse suggestion yet.Adding to this suggestion’s viability further is the fact that JPJ only <a rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.nst.com.my/news/nation/2025/12/1345668/rtd-collects-rm935mil-discounted-summonses-rm14bil-still-unpaid" target="_blank">reportedly</a>&nbsp;collected just RM93.51 million in outstanding summonses and fines through their recent collection drive. Despite the department offering offending motorists a 50% discount through said drive, the amount collected is clearly meagre versus the total amount noted prior.Despite the sound and valid arguments, Carz.com.my also recognises some concerns such as scheme may raise, notably on questions at how the department plans on setting eligible conditions in allowing offending motorists such a payment scheme.What say you folks?
